Re: Colours as surnames

I tried searching a Swedish surname site Interesting site (there's 10 people with my name)! There seem to be 183 113 people with my last name. Which confirms my impression that it's far far too common. I need to come up with a new one. So what's your favourite colour? Some kind of bluish green, I t...

Done and sent!

Damn I had to look up a lot of words. It's not even been a year since I finished my six months of formal Spanish studies. I think I need to start studying again! :D

Re: Colours as surnames

I can't think of any in Swedish or Finnish, but in Finnish there's a given name, Sini, though. Sininen means blue. So it's only half blue? Something like "bl...." :) But no, I have to agree with you. Apart from a Norwegian friend of mine called Scarlet, I don't believe I have ever heard a color-der...

Thank you! :D

I just hope I have managed to get my computer shipped to Ireland by the 25th. Otherwise I'll just have to find another way to do it. My phone should probably do the trick...

If it's too much of a hassle, you needn't bother. It's my fault I missed it, after all. But if you could, that would certainly be very nice of you. :D

Swedish, English, Spanish and Japanese is what I can do, probably in that order of fluency today.

Re: Government of Uscan

A few thoughts of mine..... The sacnicap, is it a general meeting of all commoners, just the richest ones, the most prominent ones, or of certain electors chosen by the castes? It seems to me that a general assembly of every member of the castes would be very hard to manage, no matter the technologi...

To me, "klädkammare" is something you can walk into, "garderob" is not. I don't hear the former much either, mostly because most people I know don't have one. Exactly! Garderob is a piece of furniture while klädkammare is a room. Yeah.... except not really. ;) In theory I agree with you, it ...

Re: How do you pronounce "Wikipedia"?

The flapping is variable in brE, anyway... it does exist but it's not the primary variant or something. I think you're just going to have to take people at their word when they say [d]... Oh, I forgot about non-NAE-speakers there, actually. But yeah, I have my doubts about [di(ː)] showing up there ...

Re: Language Instruction in Different Countries

In Sweden, you start learning English the day you begin school. Later on you can choose to learn either, Spanish, French or German That makes me feel old - I didn't get to start until fourth grade. That was... 1994. A few years later as I recall it changed to third grade. I think it varies from one...

I leave the board for one month..... And in that time the last PGT ends, the results are posted and discussed, someone suggests a new one, which is then organized and set into motion. All in one month's time. Bah. I clearly need to check in more often!

Peacekeeper somehow brings the guy not only to his own room but to "his companion's" room as well. Not my fault! :P This was already present in Qwynegold's Japanese.
