but didn't this exact story (ie, the same study, I think) come out in a slightly different version some time last year?

Re: What if William the Conquerer had been defeated in Hasti

Old English was already using <c> for both /k/ and /tS/, so the letter having two uses can't really be blamed on the Normans. We'd have fewer French loanwords I guess, but would we necessarily respell those where a French <c> represents /s/ ? Wikipedia says Dutch started replacing <c> with <k> in th...

Re: 2L Monumental Style Conscript: Entymology Edition

Not to presume to speak for Anguipes, but it seems possible that one could use birds, or certain insects for concepts like: to fly / flight / hover / float / sky / up; above...etc as for the mammals and others, concepts like: dig / crawl / run / walk / stand / swallow / attack / care for young...et...

Re: 2L Monumental Style Conscript: Entymology Edition

This thing is badass. I'm eager to see where it goes, but I have a question about something you might not get to posting for a little while but you've probably given some thought to, so: Once you've filled in the plants and animals that make up the basic characters, how would you go about using them...

Re: Genetics/Sex question

I think the deal with the microbes is probably that they're so identical that there aren't sexual differences that might contribute to fitness. You could argue that all mutations could potentially cause such a difference but if it's too subtle to be selected out, that's why the system persists. I re...

Re: Genetics/Sex question

yeah I don't know what you would call it. The genes are always there, but it's maybe epigenetically determined? Or maybe completely random? As a conworld concept though one could decide to have it either way.

Re: Genetics/Sex question

I remember hearing recently about some kind of microbe that has seven sexes, any two of which can produce offspring, and the offspring can be any of the seven sexes no matter what the parents were. EDIT: Bam . Some general but not too specific information on how this works ... a place to start i guess

Re: Lingo Dunieŭ

It has nothing to do with penises, mate, and it absolutely is sexist to claim that. If tablo ends in 'o' that's no more masculine or feminine, or any other arbitrary construct than anything else. If you insist on defining it that way based solely off the grammatical category having the same name as...

Re: Lingo Dunieŭ

Gender in Lingo Dunieŭ has nothing to do with sex, and is an inherent feature of the root. Considering it sex-based is very old fashioned, quite sexist, and frankly inexcusable in this day and age. do you really think you've uncovered sexist attitudes in your critics here, or are you just trying no...

Re: How much to develop a conlang before posting it here?

So, which is the threshold before which the conlang is not ready yet and after which it can be shown to the community? there is none. Here's how you can go about it: - come up with a name for your conlang - post your "phonology", saying you've got grammar ready to post later (you don't actually nee...

Re: Liṅgo Dunieŭ

the point is that you've introduced an additional letter that doesn't have any use. ṅ could only occur before g or k and in that position it would be the same sound as if you had n there. Why not write these with ng and nk ? and what I'm confused about in the noun case system is why you would want t...

/ṅ/ is only present before /k/ or /g/, where it is the only nasal allowed why does it need a diacritic then? what's wrong with <nk> and <ng> ?
