To me though I can pronounce a clear [l] perfectly fine; e.g. when speaking German. Likewise I have no problem with Japanese [ɺ]. However, clear [l] feels overly careful, formal, or foreign to me in English, i.e. it is not part of my English dialect even though I can pronounce it without a problem, ...
