in Proto-Núalís-Takuña, tense/mood is expressed by auxiliaries Well, what I had in mind was that the number marking had been borrowed from nouns and applied to participle verbs - which are historically nominalised forms, after all - and that this resulted in aspect. I'd been thinking of changing it...

Funnily enough, I find it extremely hard to associate <ñ> with [N] as well - I used it because when I originally started work on PNT, someone (I can't remember who, now) said that they'd always imagined <Takuña> was [takuNa] :P. Thus it has stuck. I've been thinking of adding a [J] realisation befor...

Here is the phonology of (Old) Takuña. My third attempt but I think I'm sticking with this one :P. I haven't included any examples yet because I haven't yet applied semantic shifts to the lexicon. So here are a few: PNT imújna /i."mui.n6/ [i~."mu~j.n6], "woman, she", becomes /i."mui.la_L/ [i~."mwi~...

Or if you wanted to make changes to Zhaj that would make the daughterlangs unlikely, you could just say that the daughterlangs actually all descended from a slightly different variety of Zhaj than the documented one. If you created more vocab for Zhaj I might be able to find my sound changes to Aríe...

That sounds sensible. Maybe we could give each person who does the first leg of the relay a list of features to include some of, and then have each of them make a similar list for the next person. That sounds very sensible Not all the features on the list would have to be found in the parent lang; ...

If we wanted a set of several, small, but closely/complexly related subfamilies then if we were to use Western in a relay it would require quite significant organisation. We'd have to group participants and say - you two communicate and make sure you share features, etc. Or we'd have to pre-specify ...

I'm afraid that since my last announcement of working on a Nualis-Takuna language my attempts have all been abortive - I keep coming up with soundchanges that end up being too radical and resulting in phonologies that don't fit what we know if Nualis or Takuna, or sets that are too conservative and ...

Aye... search for the thing you want and click the link that says Create this page, go to http://akana.superlush.co.uk/~akana/ind ... ction=edit or click on one of the red links for pages not yet created but planned. Other ways as well no doubt. You have to be logged in though.

Just thought I'd mention that I'm working on the diachronics of the Nualis-Takuna family. Currently working particularly on Takuna - if anyone wants to do Nualis (or another language of the family) then I can post what I've got so far.

At cedh's request, I have uploaded the new skin and changed a couple of settings - allowing file uploads and disallowing edits by non users.

Edit - have tested uploading an image. Worked fine, although got an error trying to create a thumbnail.

Similarly I like your design, cedh :) And actually I quite like the visual effect of the crowded top right hand corner, though it might be a bit hard to use..

Sorry I havent been around for ages - was on holiday, then moved into a new house sin internet and there I am still. I'm using a computer at uni atm. The site went down because the server got corrupted. A backup has now been successfully restored - from a fortnight ago tuesday. So that's... the 24th...

Some tree and plant vocab for Proto-Peninsular. EDIT: forgot, I also put in colour vocabulary - a three term system. Hope that's ok with all :). Also, I've been playing with sound-changes for an Ehlaut Peninsular language. So far, it has developed rounding vowel-harmony (with /u/ as a neutral vowel...

I wouldn't think so - it would seem unlikely in a culture at the level of technological and organisational development that I imagine PP is that they would have enough need of high numbers that they'd have common or survivable terms for them. I like the numbers there are, though :). As for the spher...

That looks good. Two points though: * - xa is supposed to be an animate nominaliser... so unless we make the Peninsular folk very superstitious, it seems odd to have axiup-xa for "accident". * Reduplication only applies to roots, so axiup-xa-axiup-xa shouldn't happen. axiup-axiup-xa , perhaps... Ah...

@Corumayas (and anyone else working on the EI family) - I've been comparing the Miwan and Proto-Isthmus lexicons, and I was wondering if the following might possibly be cognates. The following are patchy: PI *DZJUF-en, 'scare', and OEMiw *traf, 'fire' (thus from PEI *dr(j)af) PI *Vs-gun, 'old(er)', ...

Further development of Proto-Nualis-Takuna has occurred!

Things added/added to:
Derivational morphology
Syntax x lots
Culture notes (a little bit, including some stuff on epithetics/stock phrases in oral literature)
Personal names
Lexicon x lots

Radius Solis wrote:Where the second /s/ went I couldn't say, but the Ndak would definitely have assimilated the /dk/ cluster to /dg/ when borrowing the word.
/s/ -> 0 V_V, /a.a/ -> /a/ in unstressed syllables wouldn't be at all unrealistic unpredictable/irregular changes - could even be changes made when borrowing?
