Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.

I think we should go on with the migration map above. Personally I'm not sure if that will work... SINCE we don't know what the water levels have been like. I think we were saying how the water levels were much lower before to allow the evolution of "normal" animals and the actual migration of peopl...

My transcriptions of my English speech tend to be pretty broad, so that might not be the *actual* phonetic value of the vowel.

Re: Terrible attempts by English speakers at foreign tongues

Not sure if this has been brought up yet, but I'm imagining the way most untrained English speakers cannot pronounce pure [e] or [o]. This drove me crazy in the third Indian Jones film. All of Cate Blanchett's efforts to sport a convincing Russian accent are completely undone by her inability to pr...

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.

I have a few serious questions about this migration map migrations1.PNG Is it valid? If it is, it should be uploaded to the wiki asap. Are we (for sure) using this migration theory and applying it in Istion history, cause I need to create my people's history and I need to be 100% certain to get any...

I've been keeping up with this project and it's pretty interesting. No chance I could be a late joiner and take up this slice here? I'm ok with you joining too. :) Has anyone suggested thematic features for the western languages yet? So far we have agreed on palatalization, 5 to 7 vowels and inflec...

BTW, Commander Beta, if you want to have a few more islands, feel free to migrate a bunch of your people over into my area. @ Astraios & L'Alphabetarium : You guys are both in the same Sprachstzschbund as me (right?), so do you guys want to do like a single proto-lang that we each work off of or just start off with our own languages and just make them have similar areal features? Re: The Age of Sail - a collab conworld sprouting

OK, OK, Torco, how did the vote turn out on the "referendum". Can we officially say we're doing the sprachbunds? If so, I say we work up all the proposals and vote. And after that we need a way for the groups to each get together and figure out their areal features. And we have to figure out some w...

Re: The Age of Sail - a collab conworld sprouting

On the sprachchchchththhchbunds, my suggestion is to divide Torco's #2 into two separate groups - not just two related subgroups -, one on the west and one on the east, because there's something of a gap of large sea separating them. I was refering to Rodlox's proposal, not yours. But, since my spr...

Might I suggest that we also set up considerations as to where we start and how much history we develop at a time, like Etheria is doing. It would make reconciling cultural interactions much easier. I second that! If it's going to be a collaboration work we all need to know what everybody else's do...
