Re: Civil War Alternate History

And all of this came from the US winning the Civil War earlier? Yes it is. The US diplomatically intervenes in the Mexican-American War, which leads to a chain of events keeping Napoleon III popular and preventing Prussia's unification of Germany. Seward had an ambitious policy of expansionism (wha...

Re: Civil War Alternate History

Much of Saskatchewan was sold to America, so the eastern part is given to Manitoba and the western part becomes part of Alberta. This area becomes a province sooner than real life Saskatchewan and Alberta, but the District of Athabasca remains part of the Northwest Territories due to concern that th...

Re: Civil War Alternate History

On the Civil War: While Lee gets occupied in raiding Maryland and destroying sections of the Baltimore & Ohio railroad, McClellan withdraws to the Fort Circle. Lincoln replaces McClellan with Halleck as General in Chief and Burnside as the head of the Army of the Potomac in late September (as oppose...

Re: Civil War Alternate History

The year is c. 1900. The point of divergence is that a copy of Robert Lee's Plan 191 is not discovered in an envelope with cigars in 1862. The Union still wins, and actually does so earlier (albeit with a southern insurgency (actual insurgency, not merely hate groups lynching) that lasts until 1870....

I need to re-read it. It was a difficult read and I didn't like it when I first read, but I think I just read it too young to understand it. I would probably enjoy it today.

Re: Romanization challenge thread

From a civil war alternate history that I'm working on Korea is a French protectorate, here's the French scheme for romanizing Hangul (Chinese characters are removed from the orthography): Xoseoneo Initial: ㄱ ㄲ ㄴ ㄷ ㄸ ㄹ ㅁ ㅂ ㅃ ㅅ ㅆ ㅈ ㅉ ㅊ ㅋ ㅌ ㅍ ㅎ c k n t tt n m p pp s ss x xx x' c' t' p' h ㅇ is omitted,...

Re: Venting thread that still excludes eddy (2)

In general, I think that an individual British person can be more of an authority on British imperialism than an Indian, just as a Japanese person can be more of an authority on Western music than an Italian.

Re: Venting thread that still excludes eddy (2)

Classes in general. We have planners but they've never been useful for me. I never got into AP classes (all honours last year, no honours this year, almost all of my friends in the honours classes are now taking multiple APs). I'm lazy in that I intentionally avoid work a lot and have a great aversi...

Re: Venting thread that still excludes eddy (2)

I'm seeing a therapist twice a week. My problem was that I knew material well but was terrible at getting work done and then not losing it. I am both lazy and ADHD (inattentive type), but at the time I only knew the first half. My anxiety and depression came from a variety of reasons, but grades wer...

Re: Venting thread that still excludes eddy (2)

Prompted by Vijay School's coming to an end, I'm struggling in it. Years ago I was on track to have 4-6 APs in junior year and get into a very good university. I'm studying material below my grade level in insultingly easy classes yet I struggle to get enough credits to graduate because I still have...

Re: Venting thread that still excludes eddy

Most of the international community has been putting blame on the IDF, which I believe is unfair. No, Trump and Bibi are far from the only things wrong in Israel. Also, I don't hold the Palestinian people in general responsible for Hamas' actions. Plus Israel sent aid afterwards to Gaza through the ...

Re: Venting thread that still excludes eddy

I'm so angry and sad about all the violence in my home country. Hamas uses children as human shields; the terrorists throw rocks and bombs at the Israeli troops while in a crowd of more peaceful protestors. Then Israel is blamed and the whole protest is claimed to be peaceful by the international co...

Re: Native American survival scenario

French do not establish protectorates for towns on the coast of Tanzania and Kenya; I didn't realise that the Portuguese basically ruled the coast. Since the Ajuuraan sultanate was conquered by France, the Oromo do not find resistance to expansion in Somalia. The French convert about 60% of them to ...
