Re: The Official ZBB Quote Thread
Of course this whole septic pool issue always reminded me of a funny quote from Vortex IIRC:
"I think some people hate Christopher Columbus so much that if they mentioned his underwear, they'd add that it was dirty and had lots of holes in it."

I was quoting the twitter feed and suggesting that he added that one. My fault for not adding quotes or something, although I was most assuredly not confessing to that.

Re: Most beautiful/ugliest languages
It sounds like it has a lot of lateral fricatives and /eu/, is what stands out most to me. Very interesting and different from what I am used to hearing. I have read some grammars of Salish languages and wondered how all those consonants actually sound in speech.

I finally managed to get an appointment for a medical issue that has been bugging me for some months now. On one hand it really helps to address it now but on the other, I really worry that it will turn out to be something serious that will kill me.

Same here, especially for uvular fricatives although voiced velar fricatives really turn me off too.Jerian wrote:In general, I can't stand velar or uvular fricatives. Re: Looking for a source on implosives
I'm not sure how "accurate" this is, but it was once suggested to me to derive them from long/doubled stops. Elkaril has them originating that way, although it does not necessarily work like a human language. I recall reading that Sindhi developed an entire series of implosives from ordinary voiced...

Re: Phonoaesthetics
As many of you know, it is often said that "cellar door" is said to be the most beautiful phrase in English without regard to spelling or meaning. First of all, what makes {sɛ.lə.dɔː] or [sɛ.lɚ.dɔː] euphonic or phonetically aesthetic? Secondly, how could we, as conlangers, use this to our advantage...

Actually, on this note, it's always kind of puzzled me why Eddy has always liked Italian. I mean, these are the people who came up with fascism, for gods' sakes. Sure, we don't like German because it's shouty nazi language, Afrikaans because it's apartheidspraak, but we like Italian in spite of it ...
