Re: Is Crawl a regional term?
My friend said the same thing, he needed "space" to make the connection. So it's only me who understands the phrase "on a crawl?" But if the guy's actually an architect who should be familiar with terms like this, where could the phrase have come from? (...and please, please don't just give us the ...

Re: Ukrainian dying out among young Ukrainians?
I should shut up :) Yes, yes you should. --- I read the article on wikipedia. Still, I must say that Kyiv is a totally different case from western Ukraine. I just have trouble collating blue-yellow fences, roofs, etc. in the countryside with choosing Russian as an every day language over the mother...

Just finishing up The Polymath by Bensalem Himmich (in English translation unfortunately). It's on Ibn Khaldun, and a very interesting novel.

OK, I've done some tentative changes to address the two issues Cathbad and Trailsend have encountered. See the updated file here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8026017/cb_gloss.php.txt — To test the updated file, you'll best rename your cb_gloss.php to something like cb_gloss.php.bak and replace it with ...

Tested here: http://jonafras.conlang.org/?p=548 And it appears to work quite well. Extremely useful. Great job, GP :) EDIT: just one thing: is there any way to add your own formatting inside the 'glossed' area? I want to be able to emphasize the relevant words in the sentences for my WOTD posts, but...

I'm playing World of Goo now, which I got in a package deal with 4 other games for 10 dollars. (much of it went to charity) I have World of Goo on my iPad, which may be superior to the computer version, but I haven't played it in ages. I think I remember it getting immensely difficult after about l...

Re: Discourse and/or sentential particles in languages
Slovene has a few: no /nO/ is probably used very similar to Polish, although it also occurs in order to express only partial commitment: no ja , as a response to a statement / utterance (and usually introducing a more fully worded reply), would probably best be translated as 'you're right, but I don...

Re: Anyone learning rare/endangered languages?
I once planned on studying Mehri , but have abandoned the thought of it for now. I just think that it's not really productive to learn a language unless you really learn it - and then it has to become an important part of your life one way or another. If you're not planning with really linking to it...
