Re: Venting thread

But I also have conversations with myself too. Maybe this is normal? [...] anyway, my friend was like "OMG, I do that too ... but I've never told anyone about it." Later that evening, she went out on the balcony alone for a smoke and when she came in she was like "Oh, I just had one of those imagin...

Re: Incorrect pronunciations you have (or have had) to unlea

I had trouble understanding that this was a long vowel given how weakly-stressed articles are in English. I used to say /dər/ until I was corrected. (That would've been correct for the Alemannic dialect I eventually learned.) Wait, there's an /eː/ in „der“? I'd been learning German for nine years a...

To bring up another unsavoury person (not intentional, I swear) who I used to know, I knew a girl who lied about everything. She had a relationship with one of my best friends. Just as another test case, is "forget-me-not" a noun? My dictionary thinks so (and I agree). Is it "really" an imperative VP? Not really an argument in the discussion, but that example reminded me of the dozen-or-so nouns in Bulgarian formed out of imperative + object, e.g.: ... препъникамък trip_o...

Nice! I like it when people come up with orthographies that make 'historical' sense. So, since you don't talk much about the sound changes from Proto-Ansai, I'd like to know what those example words would have looked like. Are they in any way similar to what the syllabary* spells out? And would ther...

For my conlang Tormiott I've documented where all words came from. I really enjoy deriving words from others and thinking how their meanings might change over time.
