Basically, what you'd expect magic to do... It says "from surveillance and communications to architecture and war" - so I should think, from that, 1. spying (obviously), general divination and clairvoyance 2. what Yiuel said - longstones and the like 3. building fantastic monuments, castles, palaces...

This is interesting. Krwŋ expands massively (not long till we see a big ecological collapse) and puts out some serious religions, the Bé get their act together, the Kem work out a nice lifestyle, Kereminth develops agriculture - and the Skourenes come round and give the Uyram a technological prod in...

Listen to Blackhand and Pthug rather than just making retorts and justifying your actions to yourself. I might not agree with their tone, but I do agree with their message, viz. sometimes you need to do things for yourself and not rely on just making a post / jumping in people's faces (or getting th...

After a little while of research and half a bucket of peach liquor and peach ice tea (I kid you not) I present my attempt so far. Words are devils, which may lead a man pick up a sword; but they can never teach him to use it. Nwai fretuy he; pwer nar mur ħwewn har kroy senphaut kwon muren rit fwai. ...

Glosses?? Did Champollion or Ventris have glosses? You have bilingual texts with some vocabulary overlap; you should see how far you can get. :) I foolishly accept your challenge :P EDIT: I'm making progress. However, there are some errors in the Nyekhen page (e.g. a word missing from the "words ar...

Nyekhen looks like something between Leonidas and Chuck Norris...
Also, more samples of Uyseʔ! It reminds me of Khmer or Burmese; any chance of glosses?

As a community, they don't seem to feel threatened by the Ktuvoks. They're much more numerous than the ktuvoks, and probably a lot more advanced in technology. It seems that they have huge advantages over the ktuvoks and they could probably wipe them out or effectively imprison them (humans managed...

Demoshi - its morphology sounds amazing. Plus it's the language for evil invocations.
After that, I'd say Sarroc, Tžuro and the Western languages.

Very nice; it's good to see something about the population rather than the few outstanding individuals. The biographies confirm to me that Belesao is a nicer place to live than Uytai (that's obviously the case for women, but I think it is for men as well). There is also evidently plenty of Weird Shi...

Some of my current favourites: Téli Ének (Echo Of Dalriada) Regin Smiður (Týr) Norra El Norra (Orphaned Land) Vulgaris Magistralis (Heidevolk) The first two have remarkable music videos. EDIT: And this oustanding achievement of folk music, rap music, and filthy Mandarin puns: the Cao Ni Ma Rap .

Just as a thought, wouldn't Alric appear on current banknotes? He's the reigning king, and in every monarchy I know of the current monarch is the one shown on the banknotes. Since even the flag bears the king's initials, it seems likely that his face would be put on the money.
