Re: Happy Things Thread
I would expect every competent English speaker to know what 'yarn' means. I would also think that people generally would be vaguely familiar with the word 'spindle' (eg knowing that it's a thing used to make yarn), but not really know precisely what it is, but certainly not be familiar with drop spi...

I crocheted a butterfly shawl for my butterfly-loving grandma:
The edging was freehanded and involved white glass beads, which were a pain to work with (they kept fucking up my yarn tension. Infuriating!) but which I think turned out nice.

Re: Happy Things Thread
So I've applied for nine jobs in the past week, and as of right now six of them have replied to me. I have two interviews set up already and am waiting on more. For months I've been feeling like I've been casting my resume into the void. I have no damn idea what is happening, but I am entirely cool ...

Re: How to design a non-European phonology
Oh look, a thing I can do in lieu of actually writing a damn post! 1. Absence of any phonemic POA for stops further back than velar [half mark for only one stop-POA behind velar, or for prominent allophonic stops behind velar] 2. Phonemic voicing 3. Phonemic voicing only on stops and fricatives 4. V...
