Re: CCC Land Grab
Since I seem to be having trouble summoning the energy to participate, I'll forfeit my square if anyone wants it--I'd still like to maybe participate at some point in the future, but as things are that's not something that is happening.

Parents who starve children of love face jail
It took me a few seconds to figure out that this isn't about people depriving their lovechildren of food.

Re: Happy Things Thread
I have been accepted to the CELTA course! I even survived the phone interview! (which combines two very anxiety-provoking things: phones and interviews).

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
I have a phone interview for the CELTA on Thursday. On one hand, I'm pretty excited, especially since it will hopefully provide me with a decent way out of this awful situation, but on the other, the whole thing is kind of terrifying and I'm quite afraid I'll make a fool of myself and fail (even tho...

I'm glad people like it! I also made a dice pouch for my professor/DM. I actually did most of the crocheting work a while ago, but sewing the lining and attaching it is something I've been procrastinating on fivever (because thread is evil), and I finally got that done today and gave it to him (and ...

At the risk of revealing my loserdom to the world, I made an amigurumi of Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender. I wanted to give him a hug, and now I CAN.
This is my first amigurumi, and I'm pretty happy with how he turned out!

Re: Happy Things Thread
Resuming my Japanese-learning efforts has given me something to actually do, which means I'm less depressed than I have been for the last few months. Also, I can already read about 200 kanji! (because I am a ridiculously all-or-nothing person, so learning Japanese entails flashcard drills for approx...

Re: Happy Things Thread
Since last night, I have relearned all the hiragana to the point that I can essentially read and write them fluently, almost all the katakana, and a handful of kanji. I'm a bit alarmed by how fast I'm going, but it's probably mostly a function of having learned them a few years ago (and subsequently...

Re: Where are the African conlangs?
What general areas do y'all base your conlangs on? Seems like North America is the most popular one. There aren't any Mesoamerican conlangs either AFAIK, and that would be interesting. Only a few SE Asian, and that's all like Khmer and shit -- no one rips off Yi. Andean languages (ahem, Aymara) hav...

I have to say, that even though you seem frustrated all of the criticism being directed at you, you're actually pretty lucky in this regard---it's not common for people to take this much interest in a language, and certainly not common for people to expend energy to rip it apart and try to help you ...

Good thing how in the real world nobody ever makes money out of paper.Torco wrote:furthermore, having your money made of flammable material is a terrible, terrible idea. If you pay me in flamable metals I would run and change that wealth into a nonflammable form as soon as possible.

Re: Naduta language and script
The allomorphy gods have summoned me to this thread to voice approval of this conlang! Aside from appreciating the script a great deal (of course!), I must say that I quite like the phonological aesthetic you've come up with. It's quite nice---it manages to be relatively unique without seeming unrea...

Re: "Some/this man came up to me and said..."
This is definitely a thing in my dialect, too. I also get the sense that "some," when used in such a way, is slightly pejorative, and is more often used when the speaker has been affronted in some way by the person being discussed---"I was sitting on the bus and some guy started talking to me" gives...
