Re: Venting thread

So, yesterday, my father informed my mother that he intends to file for divorce. Kinda knew this was coming (they've been separated for about 2 years now), but still hurts to hear.

Re: Venting thread

Currently in the editing stage for what should hopefully be article #3, and, good lord, it's a nightmare already. Never mind the fact that this is my third try at trying to write/submit this article (the other two being abandoned due to my boss losing interest!), I'm getting really frustrated at the...

Re: Venting thread

Went to an MTG Grand Prix over the weekend in Metz. Should've been fun, and was fun... and then I discovered one of my decks was stolen during the event. About 5 years of work and €1300 worth of cards just gone like that, including some of the first cards I opened, some things a friend loaned me, an...

Did you print 'em all to be billionaire in conmoney... If I wanted to be a billionaire, I'd add a few extra zeroes to the denominations: after all, being a billionaire is super-easy when the denominations start in the tens of thousands to millions. (See: old Turkish lira from before 2005; 2nd and 3...

Re: Creativity of the day

Is this a new conlang / conculture? It's been one that's been floating around for a while (Oshaharan language), but it's also been in several different forms as well. This iteration of the language has been around for about two years or so, though I'm still fleshing out details (had enough to make ...

Re: A Very Brief Explanation of the British Election

Considering that EU members don't even have to agree on jus sanguinis or jus soli in determining citizenship, it would appear that the EU in general doesn't place strict rules on how member states define their own national citizenship. This is true: I think the only thing is that a citizen of a cou...

OMG MONEY Uh, right, a new banknote I finished while in Russia. Meant to be Soviet Union-style, so very basic. And, also like the Soviet ruble, practically worthless outside of the country of issue. http://img06.deviantart.net/93f8/i/2017/179/a/5/omg_money__oshaharu_osp100_by_requindesang-dbefahl.png

Re: Happy Things Thread

I sat my last A-Level exam yesterday, woop! I even reckon I've got enough to get into Cambridge: certainly the maths and further maths exams all felt fantastic! Congrats! You bought your sabre already? I've a sneaking feeling I should know what that is but that my dad hasn't told me. It's a sword. ...

Re: Venting thread

Why is the one pre-Euro banknote that I've always wanted to own cost 200$ more than every other banknote in its series? I can buy every other denomination for cheap on eBay but this one 1000 Austrian schilling featuring Schrodinger has gone for much more for years and years. I've wanted it for over...

Thought I was going to present a poster at this conference in Moscow in about two weeks and change. Turns out I'll actually be giving an oral talk... and I found this out yesterday. Just be sure to never attend a poster competition. Winning that can in the worst case lead to getting the honour of g...

gach: Congrats! And the sword looks quite stabulous. In contrast, in the US, we only get funny-looking robes and hoods. Don't know if we even get those in Luxembourg... Lake Bled I assume? Re: Happy Things Thread

I don't think I've ever been to Croatia. You should fix this. Though I did find Croatia to be surprisingly expensive... not horribly bad, but more in line with Germany price-wise, maybe a bit more in some places. Don't know how much of that is due to them having their own currency, the 25% VAT on a...

Same here. Until you mentioned it, I had never heard "CP time", and I had to google it; the concept itself is completely alien to me. I actually, now that it's mentioned, remember my grandfather using the phrase a few times. And, speaking of family, found out that, late last week, my one uncle had ...

I like it when coins aren't round. Vending machine manufacturers don't ;) That's actually why most non-round coins have a somewhat rounded shape: see the British 20- and 50-pence coins, for example, where the edges are slightly rounded, rather than being flat and angular, in the manner of a Reuleau...

@VS: So you travelled to Telèmor and got your passport stamped? ;-) And Ilia, too. There's also an Ilian visa and the accompanying stamps. So, you've been to Telemor and Ilia, and your name is John Sample? (Not that I don't believe you.) At least mentally, even if not physically. (Though the pictur...

Re: Help your fluency in a nifty way

Waarom rooken zoveel mensen in Europe, vooral jongen? De tabaksondernemingen moeten van Europeanen houden. Why do some many people smoke in Europe, especially young people? The tobacco companies must love Europeans. Probablement. Quand j'ai posé ce question à une médecine, elle m'a répondu que c'es...
