Re: Funny accents

I was asked once "Are you from London?" to which I replied "No." I come from London-by-Sea = Brighton (well, Hove, actually). Other times it's been commented that "You don't have an accent from anywhere, really". Anywhere within SE England, that is. It's so generally SE (so it seems), that it reall...

Fantastic :) And the wiki's already back to its old look.

I'm now done with exams, so although I'm not completely free from work I should be able to do more on Katatuti - including the lexicon, which has been in Development Hell for literally months.

Re: Not Speaking Native Language/Dialect?

My grandfather was a native speaker of German (and I believe also Czech). Sadly, though, he refused to speak German after the war, since he didn't want to have anything to do with Germany. (He was Jewish, of Czech-Polish descent, so I don't blame him.)

Remember, too, that one highly desirable attribute of a flag is being easy to draw. Those fractals are not easy to draw... at any rate, not quick to draw.

Re: Akana Conlang Relay (Receiving some of that Irish luck.)

Neither team has finished their daughter languages... It's just that most people in Team 2 have published some of their work in progress. Only the sketch for Potɑnsʉti is close to finished. @Lyhoko: I imagine so, as long as there aren't too many. In Team 2 we've borrowed a few words from various Ma...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay (Receiving some of that Irish luck.)

Still alive here, just terribly busy with end-of-term work! I haven't managed a lot of progress for a couple of weeks and probably won't until next week, when term is over. On the other hand, I was on IRC (briefly) this morning and Corumayas suggested having a Team 1 people and language invade the T...

Re: Conlang relay [relocated] (aka "The Cursed Relay")

Interesting! Your mention of an ancestral earth-goddess spurred me to work out what the names of the classical gods would be in the proto-language: Poalu < *(p/ʔ/ʔʷ)uHalu[X] Dunom < *tʼunuHa(m/ŋʷ) Lajisa < *latʼ(i/ə)(s/ɬ)a[X] Tålelina < *taliCəlina[X] Teletel < *taCəlitaCəl Ruŋme < *(x/h)uŋʷu[X] whe...

Re: Cartoon voices & understandability

I've had the opposite experience of cartoons from Jashan. While I was in France learning French (at the tender age of seven, mind you) I watched a lot of French dubs of American or English cartoons along with some French originals. Minikeums, Inspecteur Gadget, Superman, Batman, Jumanji, and others ...

Work on Caln Elcarië proceeds apace, notwithstanding the many bugs in the new DF release... I guess playtesting will have to wait a bit.

But still, playtesting! :)

I hope this thread can still be salvaged... :P As part of the project to bring Caln Elcarië (my Almean Dwarf Fortress mod) up to date with the current version, I've decided to pay more attention to the plants and animals to add some proper Almean flavour. Is there any information available about the...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay (Standing Under the Mistletoe.)

I have yet to check, but if I'm still on the team list, then pull me out. I lost interest back in December, although my conlanging interests are starting to be piqued again. But, I probably had nothing worthwhile to contribute; I've got a habit of starting things and losing interest quickly, before...

Re: Conlang relay [relocated] (aka "The Cursed Relay")

I believe you said once that she was modeled after Tori Amos? Thus Tåle, Tori, whatever. Indeed. I practically worship Tori Amos anyway, so it was inevitable that a red goddess should turn up in my Akanaran work . I am actually working on a method of producing fresco-style pictures to appear as Aka...
