The Pope has condemned humanity for its immoral behavior This is a bit of a misrepresentation, Hoku. And although I'm not Catholic I happen to agree with his quoted statements in this article. "When human beings in the weakest and most defenseless state of their existence are selected, abandoned, k...

We usually say 'stocking cap'. Not quite as succinct as 'mössa'.
Just saying 'cap' to me means a baseball or feed n' seed type cap.

CABBAGE Even if you've never liked cabbage, this very easy method of preparation will make a true believer out of you. Wash and quarter a small to medium sized head of cabbage and trim out the core. In a pot with a lid, heat about a tablespoon of butter on med-high until bubbly. Toss in the cabbage...

I like the Spanish word ganas, meaning 'desire to do something', like a noun for 'want-to'.

'No tengo ganas' basically means 'I don't want to do it', but I like using the noun without sounding all hoity-toity like 'I have no desire to do it.'

Get some ganas!

I recently scanned in my old Kissi notebook that I typed up from scattered notes during my culture shock phase after returning from Guinea in 1990. Alan Davies of Telegraph.co.uk wrote:Beaver tail is supposed to taste like roast beef.
Wrong. Beaver tail is a fatty, gelatinous mass that tastes like "a large chunk of good tasting lard/tire mix" while it is the beaver's meat that tastes like roast beef (I can vouch for that).

If you were writing in English, it would never come up. If translating and you wanted it to be known that they were speaking another language, you would have to use a phrase like "they addressed each other in the familiar" or maybe "they were on a first name basis" or some such. If you were translat...

English doesn't need words like tutoyer (FR) or tutear (SP) because it only has one form of second person address. There is no need for disambiguation where there is no ambiguation to start with.

And yes, 'ambiguation' is not a word.
