Re: Conlang relay [relocated] (aka "The Cursed Relay")
Lovely! It's really nice to see some development of the later Lukpanic languages, by their original creator no less  There do seem to be a few sinister things about the Lukpanab even from early on, though I think that might well be because of Coastal Western influence. What's your view? (Also,...

Re: Love Thread
What's wrong with being Nigel St John-Smythe-Mathers? As someone with both an unusual first name and a double-barrelled surname, I would like to keep things from getting more complicated. Forms were not made to handle long names, and I get asked "No, what's your real name?" already. I'm in the same...

Re: Love Thread
The exception would be if the other half knew and were hot and wanted to join in. In my mind I don't consider it cheating if everything is completely open and there's no breach of trust... just not sure I'm the kind of person that could maintain a relationship like that. It can't even be cheating i...

How has this not made it here yet? You guys are the same person? Hey, what the hell?! There's nothing wrong with being me... This one was fast... Hokulani, you have my sympathy too! It sounds... frankly very creepy, especially if it's from married guys :? I hope you and your boyfriend don't have to put up with it much longer. As linguoboy says, neither of you is to blame, and you don't deserve that kind of mistreatment. Astraios, Torco, Theta...

My apologies. Not a lot I can do about it, as I only have privileges for Team 2 - Cedh or Corumayas will have to add you to the group.Wattmann wrote:Not that. I realised from the first posts as I actually have read them, but I got no permissions and see only the public board

Re: Akana Conlang Relay (Standing Under the Mistletoe.)
I hoped that would be clear from reading the first page or two of this thread... :? Basically, create a daughter language of the Team 1 protolanguage (details on the forum), but without giving away the diachronics or indeed anything about the parent. Then, when the relay ends, you take part in recon...

I can't do this. I'm dropping out. Sorry to hear this - I hope it's not causing you too much stress. And the cursed relay is back! My personal comp is close to unusuable at the moment, though fortunately I have other options. EDIT: My comp seems to have died for good... Windows fails to load even i...

Re: How to design a non-European phonology
Meduzian got 39/54 for the first (there isn't a question 33 ) and 32.5/45 for the second - which gives it 72% overall. Good with me, since it's supposed to look familiar; the points lost were mostly on syllable structure, which is fairly restrictive.

Re: Akana Conlang Relay (Standing Under the Mistletoe.)
All good with me at least :) I don't think we're in danger of getting "saturated" here. Since there's more area to play with, I'd recommend team 1, but remember that (a) this is all subject to the approval of other people in the project, especially on whichever team you join, and (b) one you join a ...

Re: Muddled Little Metal Kettle
I speak something quite close to SSBE (I live in Hampshire, but I'm considered fairly 'posh' in terms of pronunciation) and I'm pretty sure I've got a lateral release on at least "muddled little metal kettle" and "I'd like". For the first example my pronunciation is more or less [mʌdˡɫ̩d lɪtˡɫ̩ mɛtˡ...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay (Now with pumpkin.)
I should be finished a few days after New Year. On the other hand I'm away for the next six days, so I shall make little to no progress before the 30th. Really, I'm not worried about when it all happens; I'm in favour of people working at their own pace (as much as reasonable). I don't like seeing p...

...that is a very shittily-printed 9 then. It's as short as m proceeding it if you discount the descender, which, well, descends below the line. I forget what it's called exactly but there's an old printing convention for numerals where 3 and 9 descend and 1 doesn't ascend The term you're looking f...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay (Now with pumpkin.)
Certainly! Cedh has suggested that you could do a Team 1 daughter language along the south coast, in an area surrounded by Team 2 languages - an idea that I find interesting.

Oh... oh dear... I know I shouldn't, but this was too good to miss. (From part of the Question Thread, about installing Linux) The pesky fact that I literally can't make the software do what I need it to do would seem to play a role here. One can hardly help the limitations of software and it makes ...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay (Now with pumpkin.)
As an example of a good grammar published for the original relay, I'd recommend Zompist's Fáralo grammar . It's got a solid description of morphology, a bit of syntax including transformations, and a full lexicon. (The blue text was added after the relay finished, since that's essentially the spoile...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay (Now with pumpkin.)
Brandrinn: You'd need to do a bit of work on the formatting, but generally it's pretty easy. Tables are trickier, though; I recommend looking at the wiki pages to see how they're done. To be fair there's no real problem with using a text document. Someone like me or Cedh can wikify it later, as I di...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay (Now with pumpkin.)
I've just had a thought: Where are we going to publish our (descendant) grammars?
I'd like to do this on the wiki, since that's where I'd hope they'd end up anyway. Is this ok with everyone, and if not, how shall we do things?

Re: Akana Conlang Relay (Now with pumpkin.)
Well... there's probably a reason that English has two unrelated words for lice and fleas (and a third for ticks, which are also broadly similar). I expect many Neolithic people would notice at least that some of the little bitey things jump and others lay eggs. I've just proposed some more (mostly ...
