Re: Conlang Relay

I organized at least 3 conlingual telephones on this board, but it was something like three years ago since the last one. Here's all the info I have on it: http://www.kneequickie.com/kq/Conlingual_Telephone I made the mistake of having to leave for a month during the third one, so I think the result...

Awesome; I'll bookmark this.

It'd be even better if you could turn on meanings as well, just like pinyin labels.

Re: Noun Phrases Derived from Names

I don't know how applicable this is to the nouns you've listed as example, but my last name (Vedejas) has no obvious genitive *or* adjectival form in English. Maybe this would be a factor for some names; at least "Vennian" and "Riemannic" sound pretty strange.

Re: On the pronunciation of English -ing

For me, <drink> [dZr\i~Nk_}]. This remains unaltered from how I learned it, but the pin-pen merger I worked to undo in my everyday speech (just as a matter of aesthetics).

What about the word "penguin"? I've heard it pronounced with everything from [E] to , the latter being the most common around here.

This reminds me how my mom always says "striped" as /straipId/ instead of the usual /straipt/... she doesn't seem to do this with any other words though.

Re: On the pronunciation of English -ing

I hear [iN] all over the place in the USA, in free variation with stuff like [IN] and [1N]. I'd guess that [in] would most likely be due to assimilation from [iN] with the following word?

Re: I will Learn Your Conlang (Now: Inyauk Study Group)

You're all free to ignore me but I'm a bit annoyed by the fact that everyone here seems to have a two-post attention span...

Personally I cannot vote for either language; I was going for more completeness.

Re: I Will Learn Your Conlang

If everyone would please read my previous post, I suggested a voting method that would work better..

And I'm giving people a week as well. I mean, if you don't like what I suggested, could you at least please say so instead of ignoring me outright? That's why these things never seem to work.

Re: I Will Learn Your Conlang

If I may be allowed to coordinate a vote? By Saturday, May the 7th, all people who wish to learn must state their intent, and all conlangs to be offered must be nominated by someone (creator or not). Then, there will be one week to discuss and vote. Voting will be simple: give each conlang a YES (I'...

Re: I Will Learn Your Conlang

What's vital is complete, well-described grammar. Words can be formed by the speakers as needed, so long as the phonotactics are fleshed out as well. I really wish one of my two current conlangs were complete enough to offer, but I've been extremely busy and won't be able to work on them until after...

Re: I Will Learn Your Conlang

Let's up the ante, if we choose a language interesting enough to me (realism, completeness, and not-blatantly-IE being my main concerns) I'll try and learn it too.

I mean, Finland isn't even in Scandinavia! In fact, according to Wikipedia, Finland is a Nordic cou...

Re: ZBB Census

I was born in Arkansas and learned to talk in Texas mostly, just like THC. I have wore/war merged to [wɔɹ]. I would [mɪɹ] for <mirror> but I don't think <meer> is a word; if it's like <seer> though, it would be [mi.ɹ̩], so not a homophone. <mirror> is a homophone to <mere> though. On a related note,...

Re: The dream thread

I was in a town situated in a hilly region. There was a house of brick with few windows or adornments. I entered an opening in the earth under the house, and entered the room, which had a dark blue glow to it, but no actual light source. There sat a dead and facially mutilated clown in a metal chair...

Jashan, you've forgot that Chickasaw is [ˈtʰʃɪkʰəˌʃɛj]

Italy, Texas, is [ˈɪʔɫi]

Ouray, Colorado is [ˈjɹ̩.ɛj] according to the natives I've met.
