This is the first time I take a closer look at Welsh.. I translated the text: Wales is a peninsula in the west of Britain. Wales is a celtic country. Ioan is a Welshman. He is living in Wales. He is speaking English. He is speaking Welsh too. What is Ioan?s mother tongue? English is Ioan?s mother t...

Nice :) I'm very out of practice...I'll have a go at the excercise: 1) Is he reading? - Ydy o'n darllen? 2) He is sleeping - Mae o'n cysgu 3) Ioan is eating - Mae Ioan yn bwyta 4) Is Rhodri snoring? - Ydy Rhodri yn chwrnu 5) Deiniol is teaching. - Mae Deiniol yn addysgu 6) Eleri is driving. - Mae E...

Re: Prynhawn da sut dych chi?
Note: there are two forms of where in welsh ble is for questions and lle for other not question forms. Note also that I'm a native speaker  In fact, one can hear three variants of "where"- lle, ble and le - my dialect tends to use lle , which is why it's the form used in the lesson above. Oth...

Welsh lessons.
Also known as "Dewrad comes through on his campaign promises". I promised free Welsh lessons as part of the Plaid Geltaidd Voom election manifesto, so (unlike RL politicians) I'm starting them here. Rather than go through the same procedure as before (which, to be honest, petered out due to lack of ...

Dhekhnami. Speaking of which, I have five questions about Dhekhnami: 1) Is Dhekhnami the native form of the name? 2) How is it pronounced? Do the dh and kh represent aspirated stops or do they represent fricatives? 3) Is Dhekhnami a descendent of the language of Munkh?sh? 4) What's the etymology of...

In those days, still a large part of the population were still followers of "paganism". Indeed, the name says it all, paganism was mainly a countryside religion. So, we could think that because they were rather urbans (merchants aren't much of a peasantry), and hence, would be Christians. [/quote] ...

I've heard that it was because originally, humans and other primates liked big butts. When humans became bipedal and made the shift to front sex, the originally flat breasts became rounder to resemble buttocks to make up for it. If that sounds stupid, I should point out that I don't remember exactl...

Being unsure as to the meaning of "kawaii", I googled it. It may well interest you to know that the top "kawaii" site (i.e. www.kawaii.com) is a hentai porn site (sooo cuuuute!).Space Dracula wrote:Those are so kawaii~~~ ^__^ my eyes are about to bleed cuteness.

How many publishers have you tried, Mark? All the ones that accept unagented submissions, plus a few agents. :( I know this might sound weird, but have you tried submitting it to publishers outside the US? IIRC Brian Stableford couldn't get published in the UK when he started out so he sent it to t...

Isn't the aorist for timeless truths, e.g. "I was born in 1990"? Trebor IIRC the etymology of "aorist" means "timeless" (could well be very wrong), so in any conlangs where I've used it this is essentially what it means- it is a "tense" which is unmarked for time. But, as gach says, it can be used ...

Also, does anyone have PIE > Proto-Celtic and Proto-Celtic > Welsh? O.K. Here's a brief and extremely discriminatory survey of changes from Proto-Celtic > Welsh. I haven't shown Svarabhakti or gone into detail about i-affection. Strictly speaking this produces Middle Welsh, although there haven't r...
Kebri
Emai! I have a few questions about Kebri and Kebreni (my favourite Almean state and language). Mark has said that Kebreni religion is similar to Japanese Shinto , but what is it actually like? We know that there are shrines, nahra and priests suh , but is there an organised priesthood and a pantheon...
