Re: Post your conlang's phonology
Thanks for the advice! I'm still pretty new to all this stuff, and what's the point of joining a forum like this if people don't point out when I'm being dumb?

Yeah, it's clearly not just a typo... not sure what happened there.

Re: Post your conlang's phonology
I'm still not sure that there's not some kind of miscommunication here. A rough summary of the phon etics of Riktas (whose Latin orthography is still a bit in flux >_>) would be as follows: Nasal: /m n ŋ/ Plosive: /p b t d k g/ Fricative: /f v s z h/ Affricate: /ts dz/ Approximant: /j w l/ Tap: /ɾ/ ...

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread
Could anyone explain how /z/ possibly can have become /k’/ in one of my conlangs? Well, /t/ merged unconditionally with /k/ in Hawaiian in far less than 5000 years, and that's a pretty big shift in place of articulation. Malagasy, another Austronesian language, picked up a Sandhi-type alternation b...

Re: Collaborative conworlding with Microscope RPG?
I downloaded a copy of Microscope a little while ago, and it seems like it could be pretty interesting if you got a good group of people together. I'm not looking at the rules right now (I've got them on a different computer), but as far as I can recall there's nothing about the rules that would mak...

Re: Post your conlang's phonology
I'll definitely consider it, though I will point out that, according to WALS, Seneca has only the plosives /b t k/, and according to Wikipedia at least some of the other Iroquoian languages (including Mohawk) have no labial consonants at all.

Re: Post your conlang's phonology
Plosive: /t k g/ ???? Yeah, so... /d/ and /ɾ/ are allophones, and in the history of the language /d/ has mostly merged to /ɾ/ except in (some) medial clusters. Likewise, the language does have the bilabial plosives /p/ and /b/, but they've undergone linition to /f/ and /v/ in most positions. Should...

Re: Post your conlang's phonology
Ddiktas Ddammay is my first attempt at a conlang. It's pretty heavily inspired by native Californian languages, but I wanted to be able to pronounce it without too much work, so I based the phonology mostly on Austronesian languages, particularly Malagasy. Consonants: Nasal: /m n ŋ/ Plosive: /t k g/...

Re: The Correspondence Library
Thanks! I'm not sure how unusual the changes are, though some of the rules governing them are a bit odd. Mutsun, Rumsen, and Chochenyo are relatively well documented, though, and Callaghan provided what looked to me like a pretty convincing cognate set. The only "living" Utian languages are three va...

Re: The Correspondence Library
I've never posted here before, but I *love* this thread! Lately I've discovered that there are quite a few very interesting resources available online regarding the indigenous languages from around where I live, so I figured I'd go ahead and contribute! The following is based on Catherine A. Callagh...

Re: Most Insane Languages: Follow Up Poll
Hard to be at ǃXóõ for insane phonology; I mean, it's the only language I know of that'll give you a lump on your larynx if you speak it enough.
