Re: English swearwords in other languages
One of the best known examples of Dunglish took place between the Dutch foreign minister Joseph Luns (a man whose main foreign language was French, the language of diplomacy prior to World War II) and John F. Kennedy. At one point Kennedy inquired what hobby Luns had, to which he replied "I fok hor...

Re: Sources of "because"
Do any other languages use 'because' to stonewall? E.g. "Why is the sky blue?" "[Be]cause." Cool That seems to be a new evolution, because at the time when I learned English it would parse as an error. The "normal way" back-then would be "because it is so". It is common in Swedish -- however, "Varf...

Yeah I know and this dream was particularly realistic. If I didn't have an spider-o-phobia before I'm probably on the verge of developing one now.

Re: How did the Ancients called alcoholic beverages?
In Swedish there's a word rusdryck as a general term for all alcoholic beverages. Literally it means "rush drink", or idk maybe "drunkenness drink". :? Here we can also sneak in an example of compounding: "fullständigt"(completely) and "full ständigt"(completely drunk always). This together makes t...

Re: The dream thread
I had this dream where I saw myself playing a game called "Alien: Blood of the fallen" or something similar. My entire field of view was taken up by the screen. It was your typical low-res mid-ninety's game. However, the title was slightly misleading as it was only multiplayer(no aliens) and I was p...

Oh, you cheapshot -- search "lang~" and my username and you'll see. I have like 80% of the grammar fleshed out, because I only have one lang~ --- and then I keep changing the phonemic inventory when I feel like trying something new.
