From https://www.uni-jena.de/unijenamedia/Downloads/faculties/phil/kaukasiologie/Svan%5Bslightlyrevised%5D.pdf , emphasis in original: 1.4.3. Metathesis . Another feature that spreads is labialization, as when a 1st-person subject marker appears directly before the root. In some instances the metath...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

Firstly, does anybody know if Alces is still around? He has the beginnings of a Wendoth daughter langauge posted to the wiki, though it looks like it's been years since he worked on it. I was just curious to know if he had any unpublished notes/general thoughts about the Wendoth family beyond what'...

<kept> [ˈkʰɛpt]; I do drop the [t] in certain environments, but this is a pretty universal thing with any words ending in [Ct], e.g. <last one> is [las(ː)wɒn] <fifths> [ˈfifːs] ([ˈfifθs] when speaking carefully, but all of my pronunciations with [θ] are somewhat artificial) <fifth> [ˈfifː] <strength...

Also a little question: do you by any change know where I can find comprehensive article about agent, patient and the third thing, I forgot which is it and how it's related to grammatical obj and subj. If you search for 'semantic role' or 'theta role', you can find information about that. Here's an...

Although this could be a spelling pronunciation, since I have very rarely heard that word spoken.

BTW, on amateur, I pronounce it with just a /t/: [ˈamətə].

Well, on the Ethnologue map they show Arvanitika in the same area, but indicate that it's overlapping with Greek with the dashed lines. Presumably the map creator copied that but didn't bother to indicate the overlap.

Some really nice maps of language ranges. They show the languages extending into adjacent countries, which is an improvement over Ethnologue. They also seem to have maps for every country. I don't know how accurate it is, or where its sources are.

Phonemic voicing [half mark if voicing is only part of the distinction] 3. Two and only two parallel series of phonemes at ...

Re: Methods of generating lexicon

For an a priori language, I use a generator (usually hand-coded for the specific language in Python) to get some basic roots, often tweaking them from the generated form to make them sound better, then usually start by assigning meanings for Swadesh list words and whatever other meanings I think of....

So... aside from the tectonic plate discussion, where could I be of assistance? Akana is pretty open-ended. You can...

Re: Language Instruction in Different Countries

I'm another person from the UK. When I was in primary school (age 4/5-10/11), a French woman came in to teach us French, I think starting in the second-to-last year. But that was infrequent, and full second-language teaching only started in secondary school. The only language we had to do was French...
