Looks like you're making a 2D computer game? Yep. Not sure if we will use a pixelated art style at all, though. We're playing around, testing things, and experimenting. Does this look appealing to you? Very much depends on the theme. If the topic is supposed to be reminiscent of 90's 'high school' ...

Russian has some vowelless function words. So do some other Slavic languages (Polish?)

I speak neither Russian nor Polish, though. I just remember seeing them in texts.

(edit) well, there you go ^

For whatever reason, I never found it confusing to use both half ten and 'half tien' for times that are an hour apart.

A friend of mine did once have a problem with this, though, when we were supposed to meet up with someone and was planning to go an hour early due to miscommunication

Nils: What do you do to gain? Sports? (Since I'm not doing any training I guess I could need some anyway, just for enduringness) I go to the gym 3 times a week. To keep my heart healthy I bike to work. I find that to be the easiest way of exercising. It's flexible ('cos my shifts at work can be all...

Man, everyone always talks about working out to lose weight. What about building some muscle? Yup, I've been trying to gain weight for the past two years. I added about 8 kilos. I don't think any of it is fat, because I basically have Carsten's metabolism. I used to be 59 kilos at about 6 feet/1.81...

Shm Jay wrote:What's the taboo in Dutch about saying twenty-five? And if someone did say "twenty-five before/after", how would it sound?
'Vijfentwintig over één' is a few syllables (3) longer than 'vijf voor half twee'.

Plus it's too big a number for our brains to handle :P

Yeah, Dutch is pretty interesting when it comes to saying the time. As an example, between 1 and 2 o'clock it goes like this (with literal translations in brackets): 13:00 één uur; (one hour) 13:05 vijf over één (five over one) 13:10 tien over één (ten over one) 13:15 kwart over één (quarter over on...

Anyway; I think the ZBB does shy away from criticism, and then there comes a point where somebody is fed up with the niceness, and goes in the complete opposite direction. And neither will really get us any further.

Apparently some Germans got there too, indeed, but the Swedes came from (what is now) Estonia. They apparently still speak some variety of German over there, and some even speak an old Swedish dialect

But there are probably other sources that contradict the ones some of us here have read

You can use emphasis on the verb 'to do', and negate it for the opposite, but it still isn't quite as good

What I miss in English is a good way of countering a statement with the opposite, in one word. "John is stupid" "it.is.not.so!" "He didn't go to the class" "yes.he.did!" French has "Si!" and German has "Doch!" for the 2nd. Dutch has "Wel!" and "Niet" can be used for the first example (usually in com...

I wish English would have a word for the macedonian Претркување or in slang Тицање. It is when you're driving and you go infront of of another car. I don't remember hearing that word in english to cut (someone) off...that's what's used around here, I don't know about other regions, but I imagine it...
