Re: The "How do You Pronounce X" Thread

PVER•PVERUM•AMAT wrote:Ol bofosh, are you, perchance, from East London? Your pronunciations of 'recognize' and 'round' strike me as Cockney.
Almost. Certainly Cockney influenced. South East England has adopted a lot of Cockney-type features. I have bits of Cockney and RP (i.e. Estuary).

It's been a while, but I think I'll just take Vr9 and W8. Sal hasn't said one way or the other.

Re: CCC Religions - Thru 4/15 or so

If anyone wants to take on Guop or Dragolm religion, they're welcome too. I'm a bit busy at the moment.

I have had a few basic ideas, so can share those with anyone that wants to use them. Otherwise, you can make something up from scratch.

Re: "Fore" as a nonstandard form of "before"

I've come 'bout the 'breviations.

I'm with Zaarin, I've heard it, and it wouldn't sound weird, but I've never really used it myself. Sounds a bit rural to me.

Re: The Innovative Usage Thread

This is new to me, but I don't know if it's new to you. I just heard "who'sever here" instead of "whoever's here".

Edit: probably a shortening of whosoever's, shortened to whosever and without the 's.

Esto me hace mas feliz que probablemente debe This makes me more happy than it probably should (Can I leave modal verbs dangling like that in Spanish?) Creo que se puede así, aunque "debe" suena un poco raro aquí. Y quizá no hace falta decir "probablemente". I think you can do it like that, though ...

¡Hoy he ido a una calço-ta-da con mis compañeros de aikido! Calçots, cervecita, carne, compañía. Buena pinta, buena comida. En fin, buena todo. Today I went to a calço-ta-da with my mates from aikido! Calçots, a bit of beer, meat, company. The food looked good and was good. Basically, it was all go...

Here's a map of the area around the year 4000. It shows the two major cities, Kir and Qah (by 4000 Kir had collapsed). It also shows the regions. i like rivers.png Northern Armdoms is the area where amphibimorphs abandoned and where only "barbaric" munkees exist. Federation of Cities isn't quite a f...

Re: CCC Religions - Thru 4/15 or so

Gaak: Qah Duotheism Square: Q1 In the beginning there was only water: formless and without life. Then from beneath the water, came a quake and a mound of earth appeared. And from it grew a tree, a massive tree, covering the heavens with its branches. On all parts life existed, in harmony with its h...

Re: Is "-wise" a clitic?

It's traditionally a suffix. But I think "-wise" can behave like a clitic in informal speech. The same as "-ish".

I struggle to come up with any examples. I'll give it some thought.

I also have my eyes on Vr9 and W8, but I shall enter into negotiations with Sal about those.

Re: CCC Languages Voting - Thru Fri 3/28

Since Gaak missed out on this round, I'll do something for it instead. Perhaps I'll be able to do something for Dragolm and Guok, and I do have my ideas, but I'm staring a new course this week, so don't know how much time I'll have.

At last I'm back on. I've been blocked out for a while.

Gaak (CCC)

The Gaak culture hasn't been quiet; it's just not being entered into the language round. I would've liked to do more, but didn't have time: Gaak History The trade towns flourished and became cities, and they were supported by a well-defined agricultural area. The first states formed. In general they...

There you go. Now I notice the rest of the continent is peopled, to use the term loosely, by a couple of empires on the make. I look forward to being completely annihilated by them.
