Re: Predict the future of your dialect

OK. As Welsh revives, English in Wales will pick up more words from it and finally the two languages will merge*, with a Welsh syntax (BE - SUBJ - VERBNOUN) but a lot of English vocabulary. The aspirate mutation will vanish, but the soft and nasal mutations will still be going strong. A reverse soft...

Re: If not DNA, then what?

On the other hand, to digest Almean food, we would only need them to have the same biochemical building blocks - the twenty L-amino acids, the D-sugars and the triglycerides, and enzymes capable of breaking the (limited number of) bonds between them.

Re: If not DNA, then what?

Any genetic material must fulfil several conditions: 1) The molecule must be stable. That is the problem with RNA and why it tends to be used as temporary transport copies and catalytic molecules (like ribosomes) rather than the permanent genetic material of most organisms. 2) It must be copyable.Th...

Re: Poll: Favourite Almean languages

I suspect it's because the Eastern languages have been up for longest and have lost the shiny newness sparkle in people's heads.

Mind you I'd hate to have to struggle with the Munkhashi & Dhekhnami verb systems.

Re: CCC - New (sub)culture round - VOTE by 1/4

I believe we've got up to 5000, but I'm sure you can set a subculture going in a previous era. I think we probably need a timeline added to the Wiki. Anyway I claim Dr-7, Dr-8 and Dr-9 for the Da:zi, and if Matrix agrees, one of the adjoining E squares. The Da:zi will definitely try to expand into T...

Re: CCC - New (sub)culture round - Due 12/31

The Da:zi moved further north, into the steppe, to evade a Tsargoki expeditionary force sent to wipe them out. Ksikirtyak sacrficed several golems in a raid on the Tsargoki army which was chasing them, and sent the rest back into Tsargoki territory. When the news came through that the golems were ra...

Re: CCC - New (sub)culture round - Due 12/31

The Da:zi Nation (Da:zi comes from dasir, the Tsargoki name for human). Da:zi history begins when a band of some three hundred humans of all ages, led by the messianic prophet Klarot, travelled west over the Eastern Matrixian mountains. Klarot was taken by many to be an avatar of the Old Race, but ...

Re: CCC - New (sub)culture round - Due 12/31

The Dazi (escaped slaves from Tsargoki) Tsargoki society has been battered, but not beaten, by the effects of the Great Wobble and C. irrumpans , the brain-infesting amoeba. The strengthening of the ambient magic has also had far-reaching effects. The most significant was some members of the slave ...

I'd recommend looking at Zompist's conlangs, such as Elkaril, Axunashin, , and Old Skourene prefixes and nominalisations for examples of how the thing is handled in languages with different grammars.

2. Brain-infesting terror amoeba.
3. Earthquake golems.
4. Fa plant.

One query? How could the Great Wobble possibly be a "local catastrophe"?
