Re: What foreign language have you dedicated the most effort
I'm an anglophone.
I only know Spanish as a foreign language, so I put more focus on that.

Re: Grammaticalization Quickie Thread
I presume a modal like would conjujgated for the past and present tenses would do, once reduced into an affix. Except the past and present affixes are different and do not share similar etymological origin. The present irrealis has a prefix /tse/ while the past irrealis has prefix /tKu/ Then again,...

Re: Grammaticalization Quickie Thread
From what adverbs (or other word) could one derive a counterfactual past and present tense?
My conlang expresses a realis-irrealis distinction in the tenses. All with different prefixes for each tense.

Comsidering that magic doesn't exist in real life, this magic is just as realistic as any other conception of it. Who gives a flying fuck if it doesn't conform to the traditional conception of magic as you read it or as it is done in the Real World? Magic can function like anything! And actually, I ...

Re: The Hub (Open RP)
I'd say that you shouldn't feel like you need to push the story forward with action and such, it's okay if things are a bit slow at times and more centered on conversation with characters learning about each other and each other's cultures. At least for me, I have a lot of fun with slow-moving RPs ...

Re: The Hub (Open RP)
*sigh* I find your dialogueing to be too simplistic and forward. Like, the event with Gifuga being attacked was potrayed so casually, as if the event was of equal or lesser importance than the bath scene. It's like describing a war and being like "oh hey, meanwhile a major character died". Actually,...

Re: The Hub (Open RP)
No, what you posted there is rather fast-paced and not plausable.
No-one just sees a picture of a random girl and be like "Oh,I must find her and marry her"
Especially not some crime boss who probably has multiple suiters and more important things to do with his resources.

Re: The Hub (Open RP)
:o :o :o Oh my. Okay, you're the villain then of this story. :P I was offering a chance for an uplifing "redemption" plot, but this is sandbox, so if you want to be a villian, that's fine, but of course there will likely be consequences. I'm not saying it's guaranteed, but don't be surprised if you...

Re: The Hub (Open RP)
Do you think Trahern would be more likely to support the Humans Liberation Front? Also, dunno whether Ukakela is important, because my next move is to kill him: The blacksmith looked at the Salthan before him. "Yes, I bet they are. Why else did you come here if not to get killed? You don't belong he...

Re: The Hub (Open RP)
((Well, to some extent destroying all non-humans sounds like criminal somewhat to me. I'd imagine an origination like that would use intimidation and violence against Salthans to reach that aim, so this character would probably be not liked by the law for this connection, even if he doesn't directl...

Re: The Hub (Open RP)
He's an honest man, maybe a little too honest than what a situation calls for. For a human he is quite physically strong (He can hit with the driving force of sledgehammers. This is, however, quite normal for humans in his world). He'd never turn to crime. While adventurous, he doesn't prefer to fig...

This character is a human and dislike any who are non-human.
He is also a traveller from another dimension (which explains his opposition to the other creatures), but he got stuck here and so he had to reforge his life anew.

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread
Bloody hell, I never said anything about trying to developed labialized bilabials! I said I'm trying to develop labialized velar stops, fricatives and dental fricatives. I have too few /w/s and too many /o u/. I don't want the labial series to be rare, but also not exceptionally common. Except the l...

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread
I somehow suspect that bilabials that would cause preceding consonants to become labialized are themselves phonetically rounded, but this is not typically marked phonemically unless a contrast between unrounded and rounded labials exists. I need to find a way to develop /Tw Dw kw gw xw Gw/ without ...

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread
Could bilabial consonants cause labialization of some consonants and the round and backing of front vowel if they precede the bilabial consonants only? Typically I would assume not, as bilabials are typically unlabialized and have no velar or uvular component. To get the effect you want what you pr...
