I applied for a canadian passport last month, and apparently it's arrived now (my mum was born there so i'm a dual citizen). But I think I have to go and pick it up at the embassy, which is about an hour away. Blaaaah (I think I need to buy a hockey stick to celebrate or something. Or Tim Horton's l...

(I would assume, without context: ) "I can't let you see me being so pathetic"

Equally it could be "you can't let me see you" or any other configuration of pronouns.

("Show such a pitiful sight" doesn't strike me as idiomatic in English, nor indeed does the word pitiful)

If you ask someone how they are doing, and they say fine or okay , that typically means these days that they are not doing all that great. でもさ、トーンが大切、そんな言葉だったら。嬉しい感じでfineと言えるよ yeah but, tone is important with those words - ie. you can say "fine" with a 'happy' tone いつも生徒さんのso-soを調整してる(?)。正しくなくはないけど...

Tabarnak! On a more serious note, I know most of these just by watching a lot of French movies in my late teens. Also I had a kid's French book that literally taught you how to say "fuck you" (Vas te faire foutre or something) although it said "too rude to translate". It was alongside some more old-...
