I've been on a little break from conlanging, but I had a thought that seemed too Monty Pythonesque to not share.

Collect all the most offensive or awkward words in a language. Profanities, curses, but also words for sexual organs, slurs and epithets - all the words you hope never to hear or that make conversation awkward. Now do the same for all the most wide spread languages.

Now create a brand new language, and make sure that your most used words sound exactly like the words you have collected.

So that when you say, "Hi, how are you?" in your new language, it sounds like "Vulva! Hijo de puto wetback scheisse yīnjīng?"

Now *that* would be a language... to NEVER use! lol

For about 10 years vulva was a word in Poswa..... meaning "fern" and appearing in the name of a country. But iv now cleaned the lexicon a lot....down to 3000 words from over 10000, so that word is gone now. The word for fern now is tavva and the placename is Tavlu.

puta is also a word, "underwear, flag", but I've been told the Spanish term isn't usually that offensive in bare form.

I asked a Mexican-American Spanish speaker about this today, and she said that "puta" by itself means "whore". Her family is Tex-Mex, though, so it might be an innovation in Texan (or Mexican) Spanish.

Isn't there some word that means "insect" in most dialects but translates to "cock/wang/dick/rude-word-for-penis" in Puerto Rican Spanish?

Um...isn't that just what puta means?

"Bicho". Which, by the way, in Nicaraguan Spanish means "pussy", and in El Salvador is an extremely common word for "guy 30 years old or younger (including toddlers)" (or "girl", in the feminine form bicha).

puta is a common enough expletive in spanish, at least in those dialects I know, used roughly like you'd use "fuck" in english, say, upon stubbing your toe. that being said, calling someone a puta is, as you would expect, rather insulting: prostitutes tend to prefer the word 'escort'
