so i toned down the tones (no pun intended, though very much enjoyed) originally created in Puthe, leaving more room to grow for the tones in the next stage of the language. the result is a fair bit more streamlined, and resembles the original Memeyk, but with tones and nasal vowels.

here's Drinking Alone Under the Moon, first in Puthe, then New Puthe:

ə́ŋc ə̣ŋm nğœs ̣ŋị́t θúpt
is among flowers alcohol jug

xmœ̣t mẹm sə́p mẹ́ŋc pʼə́rmʼ
IMPERF-drink alone, near NEG-IMPERF-be friends

xŋə̣mʼt ít ppórp set pnụm
IMPERF-beckon raise ACC-cup bright ACC-moon

ə́ŋc om θpə́cc θʼét mụ̀t

tə̄rp tmœ̣t mə̣́t nụm
though HAB-drink not moon

xxikt hə́jt om spret psēt pə́cc
IMPERF-lift only my each ACC move shadow

xpʼə́t śét mə́ŋn ŋọn əmθʼ
IMPERF-take now is as during time I

xit ə́p mə́ŋn ə́ŋc pnœ̣ğn
IMPERF-enjoy here during is ACC-springtime

xθiŋk om pprít nọmẹkt

xθərθ pə́cc, çtrén nọnụm

xpərpc jaŋ sot θiwmʼ əmθʼ

PERF-depart drunk each

səŋθk mə̣θt śét ə́ŋc pʼərmʼ jaŋ phə̣́t nẹm ko tğœ̀
meet as now are friends ever DAT-stay milk beyond path

a couple New Puthe spelling rules: ogonek under vowel means nasal, <h> after vowel means long. <e> is /ɛ/, <ee> is /e/.

ə̨́c əhm œs it fụ́t

mœt mèm, sə́p mə̨́c fə́m

sə̣hk mə̣t śèt ə̨́c fə́m jaŋ pe hə̀t ném ko tow
meet as now are friends ever DAT stay milk beyond path ("beyond the milk road")

A jug of wine amidst the flowers:
drinking alone, with no friend near.
Raising my cup, I beckon the bright moon;
My shadow included, we're a party of three.
Although the moon's unused to drinking,
And the shadow only apes my every move,
For the moment I'll just take them as they are,
Enjoying spring when it is here.
Reeling shadow, swaying moon,
Attend my dance and song.
Still sober, we rejoice together;
Drunk, each takes his leave.
To seal forever such a friendship,
Let's rendezvous beyond the Milky Way.

I love the phonology. It's the kind you can only find in a language that's been worked on for quite some time. What are the tones, though? I see underdot, underdot-with-grave, underdot-with-acute, alongside grave and acute by themselves. So are there six tones, or is the underdot something else unrelated to tone?

acute is rising (35)
grave is falling (53)
underdot is low (2)
grave + underdot is low falling (31)
accute + underdot is low rising (13)

Agreed. (I think I prefer the first one though because of its crazy consonant clusters.)

Yeah, I'm pretty fond of them too. Maybe a daughter lang that loses the tonality but keeps the clusters
