so i toned down the tones (no pun intended, though very much enjoyed) originally created in Puthe, leaving more room to grow for the tones in the next stage of the language. the result is a fair bit more streamlined, and resembles the original Memeyk, but with tones and nasal vowels.
here's Drinking Alone Under the Moon, first in Puthe, then New Puthe:

a couple New Puthe spelling rules: ogonek under vowel means nasal, <h> after vowel means long. <e> is /ɛ/, <ee> is /e/.

meet as now are friends ever DAT stay milk beyond path ("beyond the milk road")
A jug of wine amidst the flowers:
drinking alone, with no friend near.
Raising my cup, I beckon the bright moon;
My shadow included, we're a party of three.
Although the moon's unused to drinking,
And the shadow only apes my every move,
For the moment I'll just take them as they are,
Enjoying spring when it is here.
Reeling shadow, swaying moon,
Attend my dance and song.
Still sober, we rejoice together;
Drunk, each takes his leave.
To seal forever such a friendship,
Let's rendezvous beyond the Milky Way.
Puthe II
I love the phonology. It's the kind you can only find in a language that's been worked on for quite some time. What are the tones, though? I see underdot, underdot-with-grave, underdot-with-acute, alongside grave and acute by themselves. So are there six tones, or is the underdot something else unrelated to tone?
Sunàqʷa the Sea Lamprey says:
Agreed. (I think I prefer the first one though because of its crazy consonant clusters.)Soap wrote:I love the phonology. It's the kind you can only find in a language that's been worked on for quite some time.
