Thanks Yes, it's Wordpress, with a custom theme and a bunch of plugins (some of which are mine). I'm still tweaking stuff and bringing old content over, but I'm happy with how it's looking. The vocabulary section still has few little bugs, but I'm working on those.

Kardii gets my vote too.

OK, I'm just gonna call it. Let's do Kardii. Everybody start learning Kardii, and we'll figure out how much time we need to get anywhere. If you're dead set on learning some other language, feel free, but I'd like to get at least half a dozen volunteers learning Kardii. Nortala, if you have any other materials you can give us, please do.

Kardii seems nice. It seems like a friendly language. But what does the "y" in the orthography stand for? Also, could somebody please put the Kardii sources on the first post? Thanks.

While we're here, could we maybe get an IPA or X-SAMPA translation of the phonology? The IPA symbols given don't help much, since they often conflict with the description (who pronounces "top" with [o]?).

I don't actually like the phonology of Kardii. I think you're all just blinded by the pretty website. </devil's advocate>

(That might be, to be fair, because Nortala doesn't seem to know IPA very well, with such things as [o] in LOT and [ə] in STRUT – which is correct for an American accent but incorrect for an Australian accent, which is what I reckon she's going for – so it gives off a strong impression that open vowels have been left out.)

My first choice was actually Inyauk. Kardii was my second choice, and since it didn't look like anyone else wanted to learn Inyauk I just went with Kardii.

OK, OK, fine. We'll go with Inyauk. If we have a large enough group, we can split between both languages, but please do not split into tiny groups of two or three, because most of you ARE going to drop out before the end.

I have to side with Zoris on the voting here. Right now brandrinn has twice rushed into a decision following three or so voices saying one thing and another few dissenting, showing how it would have made more sense to at least wait a specified amount of time (e.g. Zoris's suggestion of one week) before tallying. Anyways, in the end I'm not against Inyauk (which would have been one of my higher votes) but I also think there's something to the idea that at least some of us should go with one of the languages not chosen, as Risla has committed to and others have suggested.

I'm not actually voting, by the way, since I'm not actually going to take part – I just thought I'd play devil's advocate. Seemed to work.

You're all free to ignore me but I'm a bit annoyed by the fact that everyone here seems to have a two-post attention span...

Personally I cannot vote for either language; I was going for more completeness.

Look, you braying malcontents, this was not designed as a collaborative effort. A bunch of people jumped onboard and I tried to keep it moving the best I could. If we can't get a bunch of people organized properly without STV ballots and six week election cycles, then to hell with it, just learn whichever language you want.

why don't you guys do two groups and compete? you know, the world series of conlang learning, the less spectacular sport in the world. Maybe we could even bet.

When you read it, keep in mind that I'm no linguist (matter of fact I think I'm the person with the least degree of formal education on this entire board). It's a straightforward presentation of syntax & morfology with some examples. Made for dummies by a dummie.

Do we have a game plan, or are we just supposed to start studying?

We're studying Inyauk. Now what do you think is a reasonable amount of time? One month? Two? Personally I would like a short time, maybe four or five weeks, but I know some people aren't quite done with school, so there is that to consider. Then we need to decide what we're going to do once we've done our studying. I'm kind of partial to the idea of an informal role-play, kind of like D&D, but easy on the rules. If anybody has any other ideas, please speak up!

Yeah, I won't be able to devote much time at all to this endeavor until the 10th, when I turn in my last term paper.

I'll join in with Inyauk as well. I don't have much time ATM, but I can do bits.
