MST3K im Verdur

Post by Drydic »

I was wondering, did I get this right (or at least close?)
It's the final theme song from MST3K:

Mike: "In the not too distant future
im řo ret tro ?anmen

somewhere in time and space
tic? im diďan er reďunat?n

Mike Nelson and his robot pals
Mihel Nelsen er li? niruomĭ drukĭ

are caught in a nasty place
at?pnu im vetemen čel?n

They have to survive the wrath of Pearl
Dev? tralirec ktuď Perl?

just an evil gal who wants to rule the world
ya čelt redelc? ke vule načalan soa almea

From her castle below, she sets her sights above
De li? řuk?n sur počan, ila mete li? b?ti im syel

Just to torture all the captives
Ya soclezir per?m tyurmuli

on the Satellite of Love
im so L?borei Syelaun

(shouted) GET ME DOWN!!!
AMETANEI ET HIP?N!!!

Mary Jo: I'll send him cheesy movies,
Maria Iosif: Voiretu sen durn?m be?eci

The worst I can find (la-la-la).
So muďe durn? epai tr?uen (la-la-la).

He'll have to sit and watch them all,
at?pe ?suir er lelen li? per?m

And I'll monitor his mind (la-la-la).
Er lelmai li? razum (la-la-la).

Mike: Now keep in mind Mike can't control
Ča řanei im razum?n Mihel řo epe iresan

Where the movies begin or end (la-la-la)
kt? soĭ be?ecĭ debutu iy uroke?u (la-la-la)

He'll try to keep his sanity
Eseyrete řaner li? razum

With the help of his robot friends.
cum soan colaprecan de li? niruomin drukin.

Robot Roll Call:
Niruomi? apelu-siireo {pretty sure this is wrong}

Cambot! (You're on!)
Cembot! (Ei im!)

Gypsy! (Oh, my stars!)
D?ĭpsi! (O es? curulĭ!)

Tom Servo! (Check me out!)
Tomao Servo! (Lelenei et!)

Croooow! (I'm different!)
Croooou! (Ďelai!)

If you're wondering how he eats and breathes
Esli zen cuei kiel cre?e er ?aleei

and other science facts (la-la-la),
er telĭ surdenĭ visanei (la-la-la),

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show,
ur? zen renemeo, ?ya e ralin?,

I should really just relax..."
Lačai ?rece ?enan??

for Mystery Science Theater 3000!"
and Berisel?n Visanon Furn?en ďinin milin!?

Heh, cute. I haven't checked some words in the dictionary, but most of it looks quite good. I'm noticing a few repeated mistakes:

1. Genitives (e.g. li?) should go after the noun, not before.
2. Object pronouns (e.g. et, sen) go before the verb, not after.
3. Don't forget to make adjectives agree in gender with their nouns. (Hey, I made it easy with the word endings! Try Barakhinei, where you usually can't predict gender from the form of the word!)

By the way, there's two tributes to MST3K in the vocabulary of Cadhinor. See if you can find them...

Quite right on servo, but not here... I think I took bobo from Spanish... probably from the Peter Sellers movie.

I'm curious as well, but I wonder if we might have a hint, rather than an outright answer?

What's MST3K?
"It will not come by waiting for it. It will not be said, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is.' Rather, the Kingdom of the Father is spread out upon the earth, and men do not see it."
The Gospel of Thomas

OK, a hint. Think recurring characters (besides the SOL guys and the evil scientists).

Cevlakohn, Mystery Science Theater 3000 is a recent cable TV program which showed old, bad movies, accompanied by constant heckling from a guy and two robots (seen as silhouettes over the movie).

All right, I've wracked my brain, as well as various MST3k sites, trying to match a character with a Verdurian word, but have come up with nothing. I don't think I'm going to find it; if it please you, I am willing to receive the answer at any time.

Maybe you're from the Mike era? Look for turtles.

Yeah, I am from the Mike era; what can I say? Anyway, I think I've found it, but it's not in the form I would expect; it seems like the reference is in Cadhinor, and is no longer the same in Verdurian. I'm referring to "sea turtle", V. gambra from C. gamera, the latter of which I recognize from a few of the earlier episodes (and who fits the description).

Yep, that's it. (Remember that I said the tribute was in the Cadhinor lexicon. Gambra is the regular reflex based on C-to-V sound changes.)

Oh, right, I forgot about that; I was looking in the Verdurian lexicon the whole time, and "servo" wasn't any different between the two, so it didn't strike me. Interesting.
