Map Borders
This is yet another map question for Mark. I've been wondering: in the historical atlas maps, did you draw each of the borders manually (the actual red lines themselves, that is), or did you use some feature to draw them automatically? I ask because the program I use for drawing maps has a feature for adding borders like that automatically around an object, but it's not very good; it smooths out the border, making it not fit right onto the object. I could draw them all by hand, but I'd imagine it'd take ages (not that I expect cartography not to take ages, of course).

Ah, that's reassuring. Of course, drawing borders strictly pen-and-paper is the easiest thing in the world, and quite natural, but once you get on the computer (even with a tablet, which I have), it gets slow and meticulous.
Anyway, even as I write this I'm practicing, and my! those crisp black borders look sharp.
