I'd go for the Navirora PartyThe Navirora or Navy party, originally the war party in the Kebreni conflict. They are traditionally associated with naval power, merchants, Eledh?, the cities, and latterly industry and financial sectors.
The Cadhin or Cadhinorian party, originally the opposition in the Kebreni war. They are traditionally associated with rural areas, with the Svetla trade, farmers, pagans, and the southern part of the country.
The Zheni? or Peoples' party, which split off around 3400 from the Navy party. It's associated with petty bourgeois, scholars, Zeir, and the more anti-aristocratic elements of the bourgeoisie.

wow, except for the Cadhin association with rural areas, this is almost exactly a Republican-Democrat dichotemy. and just for good measure:The Navirora or Navy party, originally the war party in the Kebreni conflict. a party for Grad students who still have a couple of years to go before they abandon socialism. The Zheni? or Peoples' party, which split off around 3400 from the Navy party. It's associated with petty bourgeois, scholars, Zeir, and the more anti-aristocratic elements of the bourgeoisie.

FWIW, that opposition was worked out during the (in retrospect, incredible) period when the two American parties looked like twins.
Heh heh.a party for Grad students who still have a couple of years to go before they abandon socialism.

With some imagination, I guess it would be possible to fit the three parties into a left wing-right wing dichotomy, the Cadhin party being right-wing, and the two others exemplifying various aspects of the left wing: progressism for the Navy, anti-establishment rhetoric for the other.
Okay, the analogy is way too contrived; most of it is contradicted by the details.
Anyway, I don't really know who I'd vote for - Navy, I suppose.

Assuming I were a middle-class Verdurian? Hard to say. The description mostly tell you whom you'd be associated with, and it's hard to pick one set of groups apart from the others. Where would I fit if I got along with scholars, soldiers and farmers, say?vlaran of verduria wrote:In Verduria?

I'm tempted to say Navirora, but that's purely because the name reminds me of the Village People. Couldn't really say, otherwise.
Oh THAT'S why I was on hiatus. Right. Hiatus Mode re-engaged.
I would be in a split. I would be pro-war w/ Kebreni, however my votes would be more than likely to Cadhin--my family would more than likely be that of farmers, and I do sort of follow t?sadh?t. *looks at the sunburst on his right forearm*
I can see the simularities to the American parties, only in their associations. The older Republicans during the turn of the century refused to include themselves in international matters and retain solid isolation from Europe and that hemisphere and keeping a greater restraint on internal affairs. That's really the only comparison I can draw, but it doesn't seem that the Republicans are worried with international confrontation in today's politics.

Great idea! Next Voom election you have to be one of the 3 Verdurian parties!Trebor wrote:please, no one tell shm jay about this! promise?
I suppose I would probably vote for the Zheni?, but I might vote for the Cadhin.
I think it?s more like Whig, Tory, and Radical rather than anything ever in the US system.

Yes, I had that impression myself, too. (At least if you think of the time when Britain was roughly on the technological level of Verduria).Shm Jay wrote:I think it?s more like Whig, Tory, and Radical rather than anything ever in the US system.
did you send enough shit to guarantee victory?
Yes; that's why I said "pretend to" above. It's a polite fiction that the King favors no party. But polite fictions aren't entirely fictitious; his personal relationship with figures from all parties helps keep the system working smoothly.Raphael wrote:Didn't you tell me once that he's more or less openly pro-Naviora?
Yes, several. (He has a seat himself as the baron Amezhna; he's not allowed to vote it himself, but can treat it as an additional Member at Large which he appoints.)Given his many noble titles, doesn't his family (though not necessarily himself) have a seat in the Eschambra?

I thought instantly of Whig-Tory-Radical, actually. I assumed that that's where it was from, but I'm probably wrong.
I guess I also assumed it because Verduria gives very much to me the sense of late 18th/early 19th century Britain to me. But without the France.
[Although I guess that the attitude toward post-Revolutionary, pre-napoleonic France was very much one of the devil waiting on the doorstep...]
