Ktuvoki

Questions or discussions about Almea or Verduria-- also the Incatena. Also good for postings in Almean languages.

Ktuvoki

Post by DF »

I just reread the section about the Ktuvoki on the Almean biology page, and I have a few questions:

Do the tentacles on their heads have any signicant function? Are they extra sensories, as a cat's whiskers? Can Ktuvoki naturally move them, like you could move a finger? Maybe the way some people can move their ears?

What sorts of animals did the Ktuvoki domesticate?

yes, I don't believe they enslave ilii. They usually enslave humans, I believe, and hate the ilii.

But I meant what non-sentient animals did they domesticate?

After reading the section on Ktuvoki, I'd guess that they don't domesticate anything themselves - at least they don't appear to; and as for their tentacles, I have no idea, but yeah, probably like cat's whiskers (only moving), although part of me thinks they might be something reproductive.

(of course that's all guess work on my part, I have no idea what the truth is.)

By saing it extends to dominating hominids, it implies that it is more commonly used for training, or dominating, weaker minded creatures.

You don't become a Flaid until 3 (or 4, I forget) posts, so !K has no rank, and thus no auto-avatar.

They are moveable, and their primary purpose seems to be communicative. The color varies with the ktuvok's mood, and various movements seem to signal aspects of mating or hunting. It's been suggested that this is useful because ktuvoks don't care to get too close to each other.

In human descriptions, the waving of the tentacles is often described as horrific or disturbing, which leads to the theory that they are tied to their mesmeric powers.
What sorts of animals did the Ktuvoki domesticate?
Two types: other predators (such as sharks, lesser tritonids, and wild boars) to assist in hunting or in warfare, and food animals (various fish, as well as the usual Almean domestic animals).

My mistake. that's what comes from speed reading  . I said that because it looked like the Ktuvoki used their slaves to do (everything the bit about living with pets should have warned me) and i just assumed that they domesticated anything (my bad).
