Minor Languages

Post by vlaran of verduria »

If you have studied tolkiens languages, you will know that there are a few that we only get a glimpse of. So Mark, I was wondering if you could give us, right from the horses mouth, a few words in Chia-Sa, Axunaic or Naanese?

You can see quite a few Axunashin and Lufasha words on the Proto-Eastern page. As for Nanese, try searching the Verdurian-English dictionary-- you can also try this for Obenzayet, Caizu, Western, Rafsani, even Dhekhnami.

I would imagine just as if you were saying "shh!" and then "mmhmm" without the "hmm". (Syllabic /m/, don't you know.)

It's an abbreviation (I think the Brits would call it a suspension) for shriftom, literally 'learned person', but used as a title for one who has finished two levels of university study and is thus qualified to teach at the university itself.

The British term is contraction. (For those who are wondering, the difference is that a contraction includes the last letter of the abbreviated word ? like Dr for "Doctor" ? whereas an abbreviation does not ? like etc for "et cetera".)
