Origin of Almean humans

Mark, a question that's been bugging me:

Since Verdurian and some other Almean languages have such close similarities to Earth languages (even down to the vocab in Verdurian's case), can this be taken as evidence that Almean humans have their origin on Earth? And that Almea was, originally, an Earth colony?

I doubt that, since Almean humans have only four toes on each foot.

And since there's still a species of proto-humans alive on Almea. And since uesti are more water-oriented than we are, wich fits in well with Almean mammals.

But then how could the same species pop up on two planets? The chances are incredibly astronomical. So it must have something to do with an Earth colony.

Oh and another little comment, if there were no monkeys, apes, or anything that must prove the outside seeding of a species.

There's no real scientific explanation (or I just haven't thought of one). Sometimes I figure that Almea is a kind of alternate Earth, so the similarities are due to it not being too far away in a secondary time dimension.

The real reason is aesthetic, though. Truly alien beings are difficult to empathize with. I very much doubt that any other planets are inhabited by humanoids. Some authors have done well with very un-human aliens; but I prefer to keep my 'real' aliens in an s.f. universe.
