Afterall, many anc. greeks would appreciate more the... err... romantic company of a young boy (which would have no moustache anyway), than that of a girl with romantic blue eyes and bushy brows. Oh, and btw, ancient greeks invented so many things, couldn't they invent some depilation method too?
I was avoiding mentioning the young boys since I thought as a modern greek you might be offended. :D As for greek women, I haven't seen enough of them to comment on the moustaches... apart from the observation that mediterranean women generally tend to have a little top lip hair. *shrugs* Which doesn't seem like a major problem to me, but there you go.

I once read somewhere that this was on purpose - they wouldn't suffer as long if they couldn't swim when they fell into cold water. But maybe that's just sailors' yarn...

Anyway, that reminded me of this old joke about a boy wanting to join the navy and, when asked whether he can swim, answers "What! Don't you have ships anymore?".

Oh, please! I'm not going to get offended for some people that lived 2,500 years ago! Afterall, they never discovered any depilation method, did they? (God, do I have an issue with that!) lol

chirs-gr :

Some people are really offended when you speak about the deeds of their (even very far) ancestors when they aren't quite moral according to today's standards. At least, we know now that you aren't part of those people. In a doubt, restrain yourself is it said, that is what he did.

I also, by the way, absolutely hate both a) facial hair and b) shaving. My current career goals include becoming a genetic engineer so I can engineer out the gene for facial hair from the human genetic code... :D Perhaps I could figure out how to make it migrate northwards.... can you imagine the adverts? "Fed up of shaving and fed up of bald spots? After one injection of genetically engineered retroviruses, the hair will stop growing on your chin and start growing on your head!!!"
