Hi, Mark! I'm Joe User, and I may or may not be a real person. How do you think the board will work?

You're doing very well... you don't need either
il here though. You can just write
Rho e fasil...

The Verdurian word is from
ciy 'epoch' +
r?ma 'count, reckoning'. The Cuzeian is
Re:neca so:nie: 'count of years'.
It covers everything from the creation of the four worlds before Almea to the formation of Cuzei. The major sections are:
Creation
The creation of the Ei:nalandaue:
The rebellion of Ekaia (Eca?as)
The creation of the giants (the first Thinking Kind)
The war of the giants and ogres
The creation of the ilii, and how Iriam wooed Alana
The first 5 wars of the iliu and the ktuvoks
The creation of the elcari (and some stories about them)
The creation of men and the quest of Arash and Zhen?ra
The final 3 iliu-ktuvok wars
The return to barbarism, and the rise of Metayu
The Cuzeian rediscovery of I?inos
The invasion of the Plain by the Four Cuzeian Lineages
The formation of the original Cuzeian kingdoms
The loss of Metayu and Cayenas to the Cadhinorians
The union of Cuzei under the Calesiore:
I'm up to the third-to-last of these.
The version I'll be posting is the very earliest-- therefore, the one that treats the least of the history of Cuzei! It was the custom for scribes to bring it up to date when they copied it, so later versions deal with more Cuzeian history, and the Arashei version even has some Cadhinorian history in it, mostly an interpolation about Erv?a.

Wow! This is a very major thing! I can't wait!
From which terrestrial myths did you draw inspiration?
I see a bit of Norse mythology in there, with the Giants being the first to be created. Also the word
Ei:nalandaue: looks somewhat like
Ainulindal?, which is Tolkien's creation myth.
Oh man, I'm going to just gobble this thing up.
What's the release date?

Aah, history.
Especially fun if you're the one making it up. You ace all tests.
I've actually got a long and detailed storyline for J. Tegire I in the back of my head. I can say it to myself in blazing color and detail without the slightest strain, but, being a lefty ((and darn proud of it )), I'm not the best at writing it all down. Which really stinks, because it's a complex story, full of battle, divine providence, and all-around koolness. I can imagine it as a movie, but every time I try to write it down, I can't get it out. Plus I don't have any names for people, besides J, of course. I could give you the run-down if you want, but this is the Almea forum.

Same with me. I'm good at con-history and con-myth, but horrible at writing. Ah well, not everyone can be a tolkien...

There's enough to do without that! But who knows... I've always assumed there'd be a big war between Verduria and Dhekhnam in the 3500s. After that, I don't know. It'd be fun to take the planet into the space age... on the other hand, I have a whole s.f. universe for that.

I'm actually now trying my best to put my story about his honour J.T. I to paper. Expect at least something before summer.

S.F. Universe? Do you have a whole other fantasy creation like Almea, except in a science fiction genre instead of a fantasy genre?
What are you hiding?

A whole 'nother s.f. universe. I have a couple of novels set in it, and one of them is even readable. Not as much background material, though.
Some of you will recognize the name of one of the planets in it: Maraille. (No, it's not named for the font. :)
a little info?

So, you think you could give us maybe a three-sentence description of that universe? Is it more like a Star Trek type or a Star Wars type or neither? In Earth's future or in a totally different setting? ...?

It's a future history for Earth. Compared to other s.f. universes, the biggest difference is that the speed of light remains an absolute limit. As a result, space exploration goes slowly, and even after a few thousand years there are only about 50 human worlds. Because travel is so slow and expensive, very few actual goods change hands... the biggest trade is in intangibles-- ideas, patents, cultural material.
Something else that changes human life immensely: lifetimes approach a thousand years. One corollary is that child-raising is not much of a focus of society. Today, half a typical person's life is spent being a child or raising one; in this future, it's more like 5%.

Do any Almean langs have the equivalent of a -y suffix?

Sure; e.g. "lefty" above would be
cosom, c?sshue, or
cos? in Verdurian. (See the Derivational Morphology section for these suffixes.)
