Capital punishment

Questions or discussions about Almea or Verduria-- also the Incatena. Also good for postings in Almean languages.

Capital punishment

Post by Brel »

Haven't heard much on this topic yet. I assume all countries in Almea still practice capital punishment of some sort; or have any yet banned it? Among Almean societies past and present, what sorts of lethal punishments are given out, and for what offenses? Who carries them out? Are any jurisdictions known for being especially punitive (Texases of Almea)? Are they public or private? Are certain classes executed by different methods? How has capital punishment, and crime in general, affected the idioms of cultures (e.g., we have "hanging judge", "riding the lightning", etc.)?

I know it's been a long time, but I would still like an answer to these questions!

OK, some initial thoughts here:

I haven't thought much about methods of punishment.

Oh. Well you see, I didn't know what a lamprey was, and I didn't think to google just "lamprey", only "lamprey bath". So when I searched for "lamprey" just now I found out what it was.

Thank you for your writing here. I'd be interested to know more, about methods and how it affects language and culture. Are there any groups advocating for further restriction or abolition?
