Elenicoi

Wouldn't it make more sense for the Elenicoi to be Russian Orthodox rather than Greek -- given all those Russian loans in Verdurian?

If the cognates bug you, think of Almea as being Earth in an alternative temporal dimension. Out of the infinity of possible universes, those with planets similar to ours are easier to get access to. (Perhaps there is another effect which makes it harder to get to near-duplicate earths.)

In-world, those aren't Russian loans. They're native Verdurian words. Also I think Zompist once said something once about wanting the Elenicoi to leave Earth before the Council of Nicaea's changes percolated out into Christendom, so that rules out any Slavs at all.

Easy: Gene Roddenberry used them all up.
