Need for bathing
Need for bathing
The Drilldown suggests "Almean humans, for reasons rooted in their biology, are very attached to the water, and rarely live where they do not have daily access to water for bathing". The Verdurians solve this with the galináe. How do other nations do this?

Missed this somehow. The age-old method is rivers. Having your own pool is an aspiration not only in Verduria but in (say) Xurno and Uytai.
There are some regions (e.g. Luduyn) where that biological urge must be muted. Br-r-r-r!

Re: Need for bathing
I'd imagine that this might lead to more stringent sanitary measures in urban areas at an earlier time on Almea than on Earth if Almean humans have more of a need for water

Not necessarily! In Britain there are people who like swimming in open water even down to zero degrees. (But not Tony Hancock.)zompist wrote:Missed this somehow. The age-old method is rivers. Having your own pool is an aspiration not only in Verduria but in (say) Xurno and Uytai.

Especially nice if you have some kind of a sweat lodge type thing to warm up in. Incidentally, if the air temperature is a fair bit below freezing, the water feels surprisingly warm.Mornche Geddick wrote:Not necessarily! But what about the nomadic riders on the plains? I know the Gelyet and Ōkmisan must have had some kind of water source, even for the sake of their horses, but how frequently could they access them?
More to the point, what does this mean for cities under siege? The results of a lack of (the usual amount of) water could be catastrophic, more so than for us.
