Great Leaders and Unique Units for Almean Civ3 Mod

I'm devising an Almean Civilizations mod for Civ 3, but have been stuck in several places. I need to choose leaders for 16 Civilizations, as well as creating Unique Units and great leaders. The city names are fairly easy to find using the Historical Atlas, but names of people are harder.

Here's each civ and the leader that I've chosen, as well as their attributes

Dhenknam- ?, Militaristic and Expansionist
Xurno- Nyei Miundis, Scientific and Religous, Unique Unit: Xurnese Defender, replace Pikeman with 1/4/1, uses Immortal animation, needs more Xurnese name
Verduria- Queen Andrea(I needed to use the Joan d'Arc leaderhead), Industrious and Commercial, unique unit Shaden(verdurian for Knight), replaces Knight 5/3/2.
Gudargo- ?, Expansionist and Commercial
Skouras- ?, Scientific and Commercial
Tzhuro- Attafei or Prophet Babur?, Expansionist and Religous
Cadhinas- Emperor Ervea, Militaristic and Commercial
Cuezi- ?, Industrious and Scientific
Jei- ?, Commercial and Religous?
Wede:i- ?, Industrious and Religous
Kebri- ?, Militaristic and Scientific?

If this goes, I still need Civs to fill the Expansionist and Scientific, Expansionist and Industrious, Militaristic and Industrious, Militaristic and Religous, and bonus slots. I also need ideas for Unique Units for each of the civilizations, and names for the Wonders.

I only have the original Civ3 so the editor isn't as easy to use as in later versions.

Also, am I allowed to copy the entry on Xurno and Tzhuro for the Almean Civliopedia? I thought I should ask for permission.

I've also added a new government: Artistic Rule, which is basically a Republic but you gain better diplomats and propaganda, and allows you to build the Artist's Academy improvement. I'd appreciate any help from people who know how to edit Civ3 better than me.

I recommend downloading my Civ2 scenario. Even if you don't have Civ2, the base files are readable, so you can get names for leaders, Wonders, and cities (more than are available in the Atlas).

Some comments on your list--

Dhenknam- ?, Militaristic and Expansionist

'Dhekhnam.' I'd recommend a ktuvok as the UU, perhaps fairly late to balance the many ancient/medieval units I'm recommending. Ktuvoks were pretty devastating in my Civ2 scenario; for Civ3 you might base them on Tanks.

Xurno- Nyei Miundis, Scientific and Religous, Unique Unit: Xurnese Defender, replace Pikeman with 1/4/1, uses Immortal animation, needs more Xurnese name

Should be the Xaleza. How about an enhanced Longbowman instead-- 5/2/1 maybe? A 1/4/1 guy just seems like a weak Musketman. Or maybe something early-industrial, like a 5/7/1 Rifleman.

Verduria- Queen Andrea(I needed to use the Joan d'Arc leaderhead), Industrious and Commercial, unique unit Shaden(verdurian for Knight), replaces Knight 5/3/2.

I'd recommend a later UU, Verduria being a pretty modern nation-- possibly a naval one.

Gudargo- ?, Expansionist and Commercial

'Gurdago'. The Gurdagor are kind of bullies, good at whaling on less developed nations. Maybe an enhanced Spearman 2/2/1-- reasonable for early attacks, outclassed later on.

Skouras- ?, Scientific and Commercial

They're fairly Greek-like, so something like the Hoplite would be good. Or alternatively, something that facilitates naval expansion.

Tzhuro- Attafei or Prophet Babur?, Expansionist and Religous

As nomads, they should have a horse-related UU; probably medieval to fit their eruption into Almean history.

Cadhinas- Emperor Ervea, Militaristic and Commercial

The UU might be based on the Legionary.

Cuezi- ?, Industrious and Scientific

'Cuezi' is the adjective; the nation is 'Cuzei'. A good UU would be a King's Man, based on the Horseman.

Jei- ?, Commercial and Religous?

'Jei' is the adjective; 'Jeor' the nation. Best would be something like a medieval armed scout. A 2/2/2 unit might be interesting; or just give a Pikeman two movement points.

Wede:i- ?, Industrious and Religous

Should have an ancient UU, more defense than offense. Maybe a 1/2/1 variant of the Warrior.

Kebri- ?, Militaristic and Scientific?

A good civ for a modern UU.

Sure... just reference www.zompist.com somewhere.

Thanks a lot! I do have your Civ2 scenario (haven't actually played it though) so I'll check through that. I was thinking of using Uytai and Nan to fill some of the spaces, but what attributes lend themselves to the Uytai or Nan? From what I've read, the Uytai sound like they might fit the role of Expansionist and Industrial, and the Nan might fit the bonus slot with the attributes of Commerical and Religous.

Are you going to make an Almea gamemap for the mod as well?

Possibly... but I'd rather make the civilizations first. For one thing, I wouldn't know where to put the resources.

I'm using the Methaiu for the Militaristic/Religous role and the Chia as Militaristic and Industrious, which still leaves me with the Expansionist/Scientific role.
I need city names for Uytai: the other nations can use the Civ2 scenario names or get ones off the map, but Uytai appears in neither.

I've finished the Xurnese Xaleza (4/3/1 replaces longbowman, costs 5 shields instead of 4), Cuzei's King's Man (2/2/2 replaces Horseman), Verdurian Pochanavira (16/12/2, replaces Tank, requires Iron rather than Rubber, costs 12 shields), Kebreni Bothenavira (20/14/5, replaces Battleship, costs 22 shields, increased bombard strength), Gurdagor Shield(2/2/1 replaces Spearman), Skourene Trireme (1/1/4 replaces galley, does not sink in Sea, but sinks in Ocean), Ktuvok (8/3/2 replaces Cavalry, costs 10 shields but requires no resources), Jei Scout (2/2/2 replaces Explorer, treats all terrain as roads, 3 shields) and the Wede:i River Warrior(1/2/1 replaces Warrior).

Speaking of your Civ2 scenario, I tried to download it once and it didn't work. I downloaded it, but Civ2 said that it was not a valid file. I have Civ2: Test of Time, does your scenario only work with an earlier version?

:ch

I'm not sure where Test of Time fits into the sequence. My scenario was made with the Gold Edition, which I thought was the last Civ2. You can probably get Civ2 Gold for $5 or so these days.

Afaik Test of Time is a separate game, not an add-on or anything.

Test of Time is basically the original game with its own xpansion pack built in. However, if you go to http://www.civfanatics.com/civ2cedric.shtml and download the MGE patch (I have ToT as well), the Almea scenario will work.

Hm... does this mean that it shouldn't work with the original Civ2 (ie. not the "Gold" version)?

I found an old Civ2 CD in one of my cupboards recently, but it refuses to open the Almea8 file because "it is not a saved game file" :(

Edit: Now that I've read the Civfanatics site linked to above, I can answer the question myself: "Yes, it shouldn't work" ;)

Remains to be seen if I can download the MGE patch though... large patch, slow modem :(

Edit 2: Not sure if the download worked properly. Whenever there's supposed to be a picture show of some kind - eg. when the program starts up, or a foreign emissary tries to contact me - I get an error message saying

"ICDecompressEx returns -3"

if I press any buttons whatsoever... which is extremely annoying. During program start-up it is sufficient to wait for the time the introduction normally takes; but when recieving emissaries the entire program seems to hang (or at least it takes more than ten minutes for the problem to resolve itself) :( Seems I'll have to restrict myself to playing the Dhekhnami in the Almea scenario...

Any ideas why this happens?

Not really; it sounds like the patch doesn't properly handle movies. There's a game option to turn off the animated ambassadors; try that.
