Xurno, China and climate.

Reading about Almean cultures, I've always found south of Erelae, especially Xurno reminiscent of China. This is mostly due to extensive rice culture, I think . However, Verdurian climate seems to be more close to Chinese. Here my lack of knowledge about crops shows out, and I'd like to know more. Does rice grow at cold latitudes ? Or is it a peculiar feature of Almean rice ? Thanks in advance.

Almean rice is an equatorial plant, one of the staples of Nan (north of the area covered in the Historical Atlas); it doesn't grow much south of the Rau jungle. The chief crops of Xurno are comparable to rye and oats, except that they do best in very wet conditions-- probably they evolved in wetlands.
