Shinkarom, don't worry. Everybody was a noob once. You have to work your way up from the bottom. I've been on here on and off for fourteen years, and I still don't have anything presentable.

Cause noobs.¹Hallow XIII wrote:why
¹) José, if he's been around for 14 years, is not strictly a noob, I suppose, but I'd still expect it to be common sense not to necro ancient threads. Anyway, it's a very noobish thing to do round these parts and if you've been lurking for 14 years, you should be aware of the local forum culture.

Re: My project KAPMAN
One would never necro a conversation. Most people wouldn't remember the context if you just suddenly continued one you'd been having a year ago, and seeing as how they are expected to respond, this would put them off.
A thread is exactly like a conversation. There is no way to read up and get back the context, and you are always required to reply, so people are put off when a thread is necroed.
I mean, duh.
Plus, once a thread has stopped being replied to for a certain amount of time, it is literally impossible to contribute anything of worth. Scientists have tested this and have found that this is facts. Mothers agree, as well as nine in ten doctors.
The net-wide ban on necroing isn't the dumbest thing ever.

Re: My project KAPMAN
I know one forum - the German Weltenbastler Forum - where necromancing an old thread is preferred over starting a new thread on the same subject to such a point that the admins often merge new threads into old ones. You are expected, before starting a new thread, to search the forum archive for an appropriate old thread!
But that is the exception. In most fora, necromancing a thread just puzzles the readers. Valiums's comparison with oral conversations is only partly apt, though: in a necromanced thread, you can always read up the discussion that has happened back then.
Still, I won't advice in favour of necromancing threads.

Re: My project KAPMAN
This is going to be a problem because I've been dying to know if there's been any updates to Shit Demon Speech. I've been wanting to give Bob's thread a friendly "bump," but I don't want to put too much pressure on him, so I thought I'd wait till summer of 2014.
However, it now sounds like the reception to such a friendly gesture would be icy at best.

Re: My project KAPMAN
However well-intentioned Jose's post may have been, telling Shinkarom 2 years after the fact not to worry about Legion's negative comments does not really seem to fall under the description "anything of worth."valiums wrote:Plus, once a thread has stopped being replied to for a certain amount of time, it is literally impossible to contribute anything of worth.
