Cursive Conscript

Post by rr »

I've already developed a script for my conlang, Modern Ikotan. However, I've wanted to do a cursive form as well.
I've already created one, but I'm not impressed with it. Would anyone create a good cursive form of this script?

Scroll down the image to see the transliterations of the script.
Also, the script is meant to be written right-to-left and there is no mixed case.

1. Which writing utensils did your confolks use historically?
2. Which writing utensils do your confolks use currently?
3. Look at http://omniglot.com/writing/types.htm and http://ancientscripts.com/ws.html for inspiration. Since your script is alphabetic, I suggest looking at some real-world evidence here, and then do an image search for whatever strikes your fancy plus "handwriting", "calligraphy" or something. Even if it may sound mean to you, your characters as you presented them here don't look much like they'd come from a tradition based in writing by hand, more like from a tradition based in MS Paint.
4. Characters in scripts represent sounds, not Latin characters.

I made these symbols using a font editor. The original symbols are in my notebook. I'll provide a correct image as soon as I can, but for now this is all I can show you.
My conpeople currently use a stylus to write, however they used to carve into stone. So those symbols that I showed are actually quite inaccurate. Also, those Latin letters each represent one sound, so the alphabet is phonetic. I wasn't sure how to use Unicode at the time I made that image.

Here's the sounds represented by the alphabet.

The Modern Ikotan Alphabet is: a e i o u y r l n h k s z g d t j c.
In IPA, the Modern Ikotan alphabet is this: ä e̞ i o̞ u j (alveolar tap symbol here) l n h k s z g d̪ t̪ (voiced palato-alveolar affricate symbol here) (voiceless palato-alveolar affricate symbol here).

And to Yaali Annar, those look much better than the original letters. I'm not very good at calligraphy though, so there wasn't much of a high standard.
