AND THE VOTES ARE IN!
Matrix - Golems - 47
Humans - 43
Mornche Geddick - Munkees - 36
Ars Lande - Nightpeople - 31
Zompist - Orcs - 29
ol bofosh - Amphibomorphs - 26
Catdoom - Cynocephali - 21
KathAveara - Dragons - 19
Lyhoko Leaci - Battis - 19
Civil War Bugle - Birdmen - 12
Nydwracu - Kuson - 14
Rob - Sexies - 14
Hydroeccentrity - Sexies - 2
Ahzoh - Ḵsīnesīr - 1
I've added direct links for the top vote-getters so you can review them.
Congrats to Matrix, who must have tickled a nerve— the Golems appeared on 14 of 21 ballots, and on positions 1/2/3 on ten of them. They are therefore the dominant species, with all the privileges thereunto.
Orthohumans did almost as well.
I think people liked the underdog species— the next vote-getters are the humble Munkees and Nightpeople.
I counted Sexy votes as two species; if they were combined they would have gotten... 11 votes, since Hydro would not be able to vote for himself.
Only Mornche provided cool votes, so I'll put that down as a voting idea that didn't work.
An "I wuz robbed" consolation prize goes to Ahzoh, whose boneheads deserved better.
What's next? Land grab! I'll post a grid tomorrow.

Re: CCC species voting - RESULTS ARE IN
Disappointed that humans scored so highly. I mean, what's new about pseudo-humans?
At least I actually got votes, this time.

Re: CCC species voting - RESULTS ARE IN
It's an odd paradox. Whenever someone makes a human-centric fantasy setting, mobs of people come out of the woodwork to complain that it's boring and unoriginal. On the other hand, when someone create a setting populated entirely by wild and wacky fantasy creatures, a different horde emerges saying that the setting is silly and unrelatable because it's not human-centric.
On a more relevant note, is there some sort of cut-off point where species without enough votes are considered to be nonexistent/mythical/extinct? Multiple sentient races is fine by me, but 14 is a bit much. I suppose if nobody makes a civilization for one of them, then they could be considered to be out of the setting...

Re: CCC species voting - RESULTS ARE IN
I think in the OP Zompist said that the number of votes would limit the number of cultures each species could have. I guess that any that don't get chosen for the next round go extinct.CatDoom wrote:On a more relevant note, is there some sort of cut-off point where species without enough votes are considered to be nonexistent/mythical/extinct? In fact, I collected together the amount of votes (I was curious to see how it was going), and, if I haven't got it wrong (please correct me if I have), this is the culture limit for each species:
Golems - 14
Munkees - 11
Orcs - 11
Humans - 10
Amphibimorphs - 10
Dragons - 10
Nightpeople - 8
Battis - 7
Kuson - 7
Cynocephali - 6
Sexies (Rob) - 4
Birdmen - 4
Sexies (Hydro) - 1
Ḵsīnesīr - 1
Edit:
I'll head on over and check out any equatorial real estate. What's next? Land grab! I'll post a grid tomorrow.
Thanks for the votes, and well done to Matrix. I'm looking forward to seeing how a world dominated by Golums looks like.
It was about time I changed this.
Re: CCC species voting - RESULTS ARE IN
That's the neat thing about this game - who could have foreseen a Golem planet?
Congrats to Matrix, and I'm looking forward to the next stages!

Well, shit. Thanks, everyone. Didn't expect the Golems to make it to the top.

I believe Matrix's victory implies the former.Sakir wrote:Makes me wonder what will be more prominent: Golems subjecting Humans or Humans subjecting GolemsMatrix wrote:Well, shit. Thanks, everyone. Didn't expect the Golems to make it to the top.
Which makes for an interesting premise!

What makes you think it's golem nature to desire subjugation of weaker creatures? Maybe they're like the Chozo or the Luminoth.

Re: CCC species voting - RESULTS ARE IN
I reckon Golems would be like scientists with their glorious theories, whilst humans are the researchers, doing all the tedious stuff.
I'd better not continue with this metaphor; it might end with frogs getting dissected.
Edit: or evil experiments on monkeys. This cannot happen!

Re: CCC species voting - RESULTS ARE IN
So are we to assume that all the species that received a vote will exist, or is it just the top five or six? I would be totally fine with limiting the number of sentient species, but is there anyone out there who really wants to have a dozen of them?

I said in the ground rules that people wouldn't have to abandon work, and I'd hate to go back on that.
FWIW the dominant species are all hominids, or unholy constructs presumably created by hominids.
