I have one daughter.
This is the way glossing is done in the Tautisca grammar tradition, so I ain't gonna change it. And I don't think we have an agreed obligatory glossing system on this board.jal wrote:I don't think you glossed that right. "PRON" and "CLIT" are word categories, and shouldn't be glossed. Also, 1SG/3SG should be glossed "1s" and "3s", and "DAT and PRES(...) etc. don't seem separate clitics. This seems better:
PRT 1s.DAT=be.PRS.3s* one.F.SG.NOM daughter.SG.NOM
*I prefer "PRS" over "PRES". Also, I don't think you need to gloss every inherent property of a word, so I left out "ACT" (which can be assumed the default).
(Also, is "PRT" "preterite"? If so, this means you had a daughter?)

we sort of use the leipzig standard though. if you have a clitic you use an = sign to connect it instead of a dash.hwhatting wrote:This is the way glossing is done in the Tautisca grammar tradition, so I ain't gonna change it. On the details:
ACT means "actual"; the typical Tautisca verb has five "tenses" (actually, tense-aspect combinations: present, past, resultative, prospective, habitual) and four "moods" (actual, non-actual, optative, imperative).
PRT means "particle", somtimes I also write it PRTC or PRTCL (yes, I'm inconsistent that way). The canonical Tautisca sentence starts with a discourse particle or a deictic / anaphoric element.
I gloss word categories when otherwise there would only be a naked category glossing (as in PRON.1SG; IMO it makes it easier to see that this is a personal pronoun and not something else). And I've seen particles glosse "particle" and interjections glossed "interjection" often enough in the literature, it's not just a quirk of mine.
I mark 's CLIT because there's a non-clitic variant est.
