I just happened across this thread - that's a very nice idea. Is there a list anywhere of the words that have been proposed? Does someone check if a word has already been proposed, or doesn't anyone care?

Tautisca doesn't have the exact concept of scientific study, so I pass on this one.

No list of words that I know of, apart this thread. Just go through it if you want to see. And I don't know if anyone checks through repeats. I don't and it's never been commented either.

You can always come up with an approximate translation. "Natural philosophy" or "studying nature in a systematic and/or detailed way (for the benefit of...)" etc.. What's the nearest thing to science in your conculture and how would they make "studies"?

Next word: "to make a scientific study"
Poswa has a few words ...
* pilispam generic "to study", but has majestic connotations because it is the name of the department of the government that studies magic and theology (prayer and magic are hard to distinguish in their religion)
* waebub /waibubʷ/ observatory, science lab (can be used as a verb) ... not really sure how to justify the existence of this word ... it's in the language because of a previously existing sci-fi story I was writing, with the idea that it would, like our own words, be taken from a medieval language in which it had had a much simpler meaning
* nobiasub /nobiasubʷ/ "to take into an office", from nobias /nobiasʷ/ "office", which sounds like politics but is probably the best word of the three all in all for "to study" as a verb.

There isn't any real word for science because they don't have anything separate from their religion, Tavžatob, that could be called science. The closest things are muplub "knowledge" and pablam "knowledge, philosophy". In the genitive these would be muplwos and pablias, so the best phrase to translate the original English phrase would perhaps be muplwos nobiasub.

I have a list of about half the words (haven't updated it for a year and a half). I've decided this would be a good time to update it ... will post somewhere when it's done.

Also, as I remember it was decided at some point not to worry about duplicates, since this would allow different people to cover a word.
