Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.

Substantial postings about constructed languages and constructed worlds in general. Good place to mention your own or evaluate someone else's. Put quick questions in C&C Quickies instead.

Well, I guess I might as well start a bit of re-doing the Qicui a bit here and there. Doesn't hurt, anyways, since they're also a maritime trading power city-states mass in my conworld, so I need to develop them anyhoo.

@Lyhoko:

So I just dug up some of the stuff we were doing, and I remembered our two concultures had some involvement and/or linguistic similarities to each other, so I just wanted to resurface those notes here about our sprachbund.
Lyhoko Leaci wrote:Features:
  • Tons of plosives
  • diphthongs
  • lateral fricative(s)
  • uvulars
  • simple syllable structure - CV(C) vs. (C)V(C)
  • VSO (possibly with some shift to SVO?)
  • affixes
  • verb conjugation
  • locative prefixes
  • singular-dual-plural?
  • passive/active?
  • Cardinal numbers follow the noun, as do adjectives, but ordinal numbers precede the noun, and otherwise have the same form as cardinal numbers.
  • human/god-animate-inanimate genders
I think. Did I miss anything, or add anything that shouldn't be there? Maybe the number difference one could be described as generally, adjectives follow the noun, but precede the noun when indicating a specific one...

Definite articles, but no indefinite articles.

Rcodejh's gender system ended up becoming a basic masculine-feminine-neuter, but other than that the stuff listed there still applies. It's ergative with tri/bi consonantal roots as well, if you want something to replace that.

Yeah, I think so. The one between your guys, my guys, and the Qicui.

I think I'm going to do changes to Proto-Qicui (some will be somewhat significant, such as SVO instead of VSO), but I'll try to keep as many of these features we have here as possible.

I kind of want to get this back up and kicking again—and am especially interested in fleshing out our world war.

Who all exactly is still around?

Also, is this the Qicui + Baktarci vs. Ǧakærirr U (and later Mai) war? It's been awhile and I don't remember everything from here, I'll need to search through the wiki.

You find a Red Marker and let it animate nearby dead threads. Of course, if the situation gets too hairy then you should keep a CEC engineer on retainer to deal with the issue.

Or you could infuse it with plenty of daidao, but if its soul is missing, then you get a zombie.
