Re: What if William the Conquerer had been defeated in Hasti
I'd just get rid of the English altogether - voila, Old English is actually the most modern English

You could, I assume, take an Old English text and apply to it the various sound changes that led up to Modern English and see how it turns out.At least that way you take out any non-phonological foreign influence. Maybe...Duaseron wrote:So, would it be possible that English would still have cases and a more elaborate verb declension? If there is a possible sentence in Modern Old English, please post it...
You can tell the same lie a thousand times,
But it never gets any more true,
So close your eyes once more and once more believe
That they all still believe in you.
Just one time.

Yeah though the problem is that the dialect most of those old english texts are in isn't the same one modern english descended from. So even if you were to apply the same exact changes you probably would get some a bit different anyways.sangi39 wrote:You could, I assume, take an Old English text and apply to it the various sound changes that led up to Modern English and see how it turns out.At least that way you take out any non-phonological foreign influence.
